So many of y'all have sent me messages asking me to do a video on this topic. Many of you may not have heard the news so just wanting you to be aware and give me initial thoughts. It sounds as if Kristi Noam did not train her dog very well nor does she understand dog behavior. Dog's have prey drives and that does not mean the dog is a bad dog and it certainly does not mean you put the dog down. Once you get a dog you sign up to care for them through the good and bad. As someone who lost their dog last year, this enraged me. My dog was old, blind, and had lost the ability to walk (and control her bowels) due to a rare neurological condition. She was far from perfect but was my baby. I would give anything to have another day with my little one. I cannot believe someone would kill their dog because of perceived behavioral problems.

This is absolutely animal cruelty. Charges should be filed like any animal cruelty case. I can't wrap my head around this evil act. Dogs do have prey drive. If you can't train them, why do you even get the dog ? Re-home it or take it to a shelter so at least he'll have a chance to get a good home.

This story illustrates how many typical dog owners often misdirect their anger and frustration at the dog when in fact the unwanted behavior it’s exhibiting is a direct result of the humans lack of training and developing a relationship with the animal. So when my dog makes a mistake (rarely) I get mad at myself. I usually understand exactly what I did wrong that allowed that behavior to happen.

It happened years ago when it was common farming practice in rural areas that if a animal is being problematic it was taken out back and shoot. Or is that forgotten and also if a dog is killing other animals for fun what is the likelyhood it would be adopted and not put down when surrendered to a rescue 20 yrs ago, if u tell the truth abt its behaviour that is.

Thanks Jason for highlighting this. I’ve owned English Bull Terriers, a Corgi, a Bullmastiff and we’ve got our mini Dutch Mastiff aka as our loveable pug. I would not leave any of them alone with babies or kids despite them all being well trained. The dogs can see babies and young children as prey (rabbits). We never let our dogs sleep upstairs because of the way dogs interpret hierarchies and the Alpha sleeps at the top in the wild. In the UK where we live the government embarked upon a euthanasia programme for American Bulldogs. Now outlawed to own and need muzzled in public. Should be dealing with the owners. One of our twins rehomed an American Bully before Christmas and trained him. He’s a good dog because he knows his place and isn’t confused.

Definitely no justification she could have tried good trainers, seems like she belongs to a class where one could afford best of the best trainers, could have given him to some other more experienced hunter to handle and train… Could have hired a behaviorist…and many other options….. This skill is sometimes called “Problem Solving” someone has to tell her that, which is a prerequisite for Decision Making :)

Hey so I know this is off topic I just got a puppy and I’m starting crate training tonight, just got her last night. During the day if she decides to lay on my bed and nap can I nap with her as long as I have a timer and take her out as soon as it goes off to keep up with potty training she’s 8 weeks 🥺

Disgusting... She also killed a Goat: Her family, she writes, also owned a male goat that was “nasty and mean”, because it had not been castrated. Furthermore, the goat smelled “disgusting, musky, rancid” and “loved to chase” Noem’s children, knocking them down and ruining their clothes. Noem decided to kill the unnamed goat the same way she had just killed Cricket the dog. But though she “dragged him to a gravel pit”, the goat jumped as she shot and therefore survived the wound. Noem says she went back to her truck, retrieved another shell, then “hurried back to the gravel pit and put him down”.

Pretty common to put down your own dogs or animals in a rural farm area. It’s about respect by taking out the animal yourself rather than someone else do the dirty work.

Two old and sick horses, quite different from what she did to the young dog. Being a rancher, I understand what she did with the horses, but the dog and the goat is unforgivable imho.

I’d stay away from this subject only because your dogs are not working dogs on a farm. Your dog is a domesticated house pet and you use the dog as a companion. Dogs are tools and it’s very common on a farm if a dog cannot do its job, like herd or protect cattle, than it has to go. In the country, they will put down their own animals rather than drop it off at a shelter for euthanasia.

I dont know the rules in her State, but if you do that in my Country, and the auhorities are aware of the killing, you can be prosecuted. In every rural area, also here in Europe, these things used to happen 30/40 years ago. But here, no smart farmer or hunter, now in politics, is so stupid to brag about shooting dogs or livestocks. I mean i am not sure but she may have lived on a farm and that may have been a farm dog so it could be a different situation. Not that i would shoot a dog unless it was going after a family member. But your heart felt response is coming from the point of view of a urban mind set. I knew family were the dog was not even allowed in the house because it was a farm dog.

If you don't want to train your puppy/dog, don't have a dog. It isn't like she didn't have the money to get some top notch training anyways-no excuses...is she being charged? Families should still have BASIC training on their dogs before rehoming. That's why they end up in shelters after being rehomed as well...

Kristi Noam has gone too far, even for MAGA. Being without a conscience, is one thing, but publishing it in a book, has misjudged people's ethics. Universal condemnation seems like a fitting response, at a minimum. Inconvenience does not justify a death sentence for our companions. You said it well: "Once you get a dog you sign up to care for them through the good and bad. You are all they have and trust you to protect them."

Yeah! That’s a tricky one. A hunting dog is not a predator dog. I’ve always heard, Once a dog draws blood from another animal, that dog will always seek that sensation, and it’s no longer just a hunting dog. A hunting dog retrieves, and hunts down prey to secure it, not to kill it. If she was to give the dog away, she would be irresponsible. These types of dogs are bred to hunt not kill. What if Bruce killed another dog, or person? If he was doing his job to protect, what would be your recourse? I know you would never let that happen, but things happen, and maybe some people aren’t prepared for that potential. People in that world of raising hunting dogs know that it would never be a hunting dog again if it tasted the blood. It seems more unfair to force a dog to live if it can’t do what it was bred to do. Just thought, before we completely judge her. In the old days if a horse broke its leg, they’d put it down. Because it would be cruel to force it to live.

This was despicable and evil and not something to be proud of or advertise, but I know the liberals are losing their minds over this. I know Trump isn't going to pick her for a VP, but even so, this has nothing to do with running a country! Yes, I couldn't imagine doing this to a dog and it's not something to brag to the whole world about, but don't let it make you lose focus of the fact that this country is in shambles right now and needs to be fixed or we won't have a country left!
