This is once in a lifetime experience many of us Sri Lankan’s wouldn’t dare to climb Sigiriya Rock Fortress twice.. the secret myth is not to say “I’m tired” when climbing up! This place is full of grace, actually having a guide is not a bad idea so that you would know the significance of each entrance, such as the Lion gate, the kings throne overseeing the pool where the king would sit and watch over his kingdom, it’s an amazing feel up there to wonder how it was even built back then. He built his palace on top of this rock and decorated its sides with colourful frescoes. On a small plateau about halfway up the side of this rock he built a gateway in the form of an enormous lion. The name of this place is derived from this structure - Sīnhāgiri, the Lion Rock (an etymology similar to Sinhapura, the Sanskrit name of Singapore, the Lion City). The capital and the royal palace were abandoned after the king's death. It was used as a Buddhist monastery until the 14th century.[3] Sigiriya today is a UNESCO listed World Heritage Site. It is one of the best preserved examples of ancient urban planning.[4]

Sigiriya or Sinhagiri (Lion Rock Sinhala: සීගිරිය, pronounced see-gi-ri-yə) is an ancient rock fortress located in the northern Matale District near the town of Dambulla in the Central Province, Sri Lanka. It is a site of historical and archaeological significance that is dominated by a massive column of rock approximately 180 metres (590 ft) high. Buddhist monastic settlements were established during the 3rd century BC in the western and northern slopes of the boulder-strewn hills surrounding the Sigiriya rock. Several rock shelters or caves were created during this period. These shelters were made under large boulders, with carved drip ledges around the cave mouths. Rock inscriptions are carved near the drip ledges on many of the shelters, recording the donation of the shelters to the Buddhist monastic order as residences. These were made in the period between the 3rd century BCE and the 1st century AD. In 477 AD, Kashyapa I, the king’s son by a non-royal consort, seized the throne from King Dhatusena, following a coup assisted by Migara, the King’s nephew and army commander. The rightful heir, Moggallana, fearing for his life, fled to South India. Afraid of an attack by Moggallana, Kashyapa moved the capital and his residence from the traditional capital of Anuradhapura to the more secure Sigiriya. During King Kashyapa’s reign (477 to 495 AD), Sigiriya was developed into a complex city and fortress. Most of the elaborate constructions on the rock summit and around it, including defensive structures, palaces, and gardens, date from this period. Some historians believe that the Sigiri Rock palace was originally constructed about 6000 years ago by the Great King Rawana. King Rawana is said to have very advanced science and technological knowledge. There are still functioning water fountains built many thousands of years ago. The HELA NATION (Siv Hela - now known as Sinhala) we very advanced technological nation. King Rawana has had a device like a lift that could crawl vertically up the rock. It is said that the Great King Rawana had a fleet of planes that were fuelled by the energy hidden in the carbon bonds in diamonds. It is worth asking how did these ancient Siv-Hela kings build such a fancy palace on the top of sich a high rock when the humans of the rest of the world civilizations were living under the trees wearing barks and leaves from the trees. Unfortunately, the rich history of Sri Lanka has been destroyed by the Portuguese, The Duch, and the English who invaded the land since the 1500s. Before the invasions of the Europeans, there had been many invasions by various tribes of Indians. However, Sri Lanka still stands with much pride.

My recommendation is to go to Horton place. It's very beautiful looking natural Forrest. I can probably tell you going to love it.

Ali I feel your pain, I'm deathly afraid of heights too and I remember the first time I climbed Sigiriya, I was terrified, but it was well worth it once I got to the top. 😁 I've climbed it twice now and would love to go again. Nice vedio again :) I would like to suggest few more areas you must visit. I am recommending Jaffna, TRincomalee (North Side of Sri Lanka), Nuwara Eliya (Central Province). Jaffna side is one of the facinating area which is surrounded by Sea. You will be able to see old Jaffna city, fort, Library, Point Pedro, Naagadeepa Temple and Mannar. Enjoy :D

The closest meaning to the word 'machan' in English is dude. So, you can use machan to call someone in your own age bracket and in your gender. You cannot use it on a person of a different gender unless they're extremely close to you. You have to keep in mind it's a slang word. Therefore you can't use it in any official matters. You never call a police officer machan.
