It was initially designed as a beach bag, that's why it's "ok" for the bag to get wet and that's why the straps are not longer

This is a beach bag, so the reversible feature is incase you have something wet like a towel, etc, you flip the bag inside out and put your wet items within the canvas (that’s water proof). So you wouldn’t “wear it” like this unless you’re at the beach or pool and heading to the car, etc. Its also why the handles are shorter than the usual.

Love the St Louis PM, the best tote ever. I would never use the canvas on the outside though, it’ll get dirty/stained too easily. Enjoy it.
