For some 24 hours simply wasn't enough. The Marathon de la Route was run just 7 times, from 1965 to 1971 and was almost certainly the longest circuit race of all time. Most commonly at a mind-boggling 84 hours or 3.5 days, the Marathon de la Route was the ultimate endurance test at the ultimate endurance circuit, the Nürburgring's combined massive 17.5 Gesamtstrecke. The likes of which will never be seen again, the Marathon de la Route allowed the unconventional vehicles to shine, endurance and simply making it to the end being the ultimate key to success. The Czech Tatra 603 is the embodiment of this strange event, and serves as the perfect vehicle to experience some of what the Marathon was like.
Tatra 603: www.racedepartment.com/downlo...
Nürburgring 67: www.racedepartment.com/downlo...
AI run at a range from 82 - 87% because the Tatra is quite slow. 0% Aggression to try to simulate the 'careful' driving that would have taken place to preserve equipment. Sol and CSP used for the wonderful day to night transitions. Time sped up to 34x to achieve a full day cycle in ~45mins.

@@jamesbehra2690 geez, 6+ years and still hasn't blown up? I think Sim racing is just too niche to really have a lot of channels with tons of followers. Kinda sucks too when dudes like Jimmy and gamer muscle have such large following. Personally I can't stand their voices. This guys voice is a million times better than the other annoying channels with huge followings. His presentations are also miles better than the others

@@easley421 That's curious I was thinking the same a few days ago watching Muscle videos. Still i think he should have more followers than he has. Regarding Jymmer he is an entertainer and his audience as nothing to do with Jake's. His channel is directed to kids and adult people the same way. I agree Jake's voice is well suited as a narrator. The huge exhaust pipes on the Tatra 603 B5 are actually an ejector cooling system for the V8 engine. But they also acts as trumpets - it is loud, and glorious. A few of those cars are well maintained and driven at events. I think they've been to Goodwood in the past as well.

Oh man, holding an endurance race online on this track with these cars and some way of simulating actual mechanical wear over time (not just when you over-rev or crash) would be incredible! Imagine getting half way through the lap and a radiator hose randomly bursts, so you have to manage the engine heat all the way back to the pit so your mechanic can quickly slap another hose on and get you back out... Not sure any sim currently has that level of detail, but we can dream, eh?

Great video jake! Love all the history parts. In 1969, from Argentina 3 IKA Torino cars were sent to Germany accompanied by Juan Manuel Fangio. The whole race was between Lancia and the IKA Torino, both teams lost 2 cars, Lancia was 2 laps behind and the Torino won completing 334 laps, but due to a broken exhaust pipe and not entering pits to repair it, they got a penalty and sadly lost, ending up 4th even though in Argentina it’s a legend car still today.

Sim Racing is a great tool for automotive history; especially highly-moddable ones such as Assetto Corsa where modders can add in deep cuts that even Kaz and the guys at Polyphony won't get to. The Eastern European cars, especially racing cars from the Soviet Union era like the Tatra 603 for example don't get anywhere near the love & attention they deserve; the best you'll get being current-year rally vehicles in the officially licensed WRC and Dakar games, with DiRT Rally maybe picking up the '05 Fabia WRC every now and again to honour Colin McRae.
