Got a load of crusher run gravel delivered and its time to start using it. Today, I use the Kubota LX2610 compact tractor and BECO Box Blade to extend the driveway parking area and clean up the lot a bit.
A big thanks to John Graham from Krown Rustproofing in Midland, Ontario for sending me some Krown products to try out on my equipment. www.krown.com
A special thanks to Biff from @biffsequipment. (youtube channel)

I agree! I have been using Krown for 2 years now on my Cummins turbo diesel before winter starts and I have ZERO rust yet! Stuff works amazing I soak down all my door hinges and hood hinges as well.. the stuff apparently soaks INTO the metal.. and stays protecting it for a very long time because of it! I did a lot of research on the best undercoat and Krown is one of my top products 👍🏻

@@BiffsEquipment I live in Michigan we use a lot of salt in the winter things don't stay nice for long around here. I have a 2015 ram 3500 that has been getting krown sprayed since new. I have no rust on my truck I get it sprayed on every year. I also use the spray cans and cover my trailer. It works good for electrical connections as well.

@@simpleman4196 awesome man! Thanks for telling me your experience! I live in Upstate NY so I also know way too well about salt covered roads in the winter.. we don’t use any sand up here just purely salt even if we only get a dusting they still coat the roads with salt.. these dodge trucks are made out of thin sheet metal for the body’s and typically will rot out in no time and so far the body on my truck is like brand new.. it’s a 1999 Dodge Ram that I bought from New Mexico so it looked like the day it rolled off the assembly line when I brought it up here to WNY.. and I gotta say it still looks just as good only a bit oilier! Awesome video GP, thanks a ton for the shout out that was very nice of you! That area looked so much better after you got done with it, and for a guy who doesn’t work with spreading gravel on a regular basis you did a fine job! A little wood glue and a few finish nails would get that siding straightened out so no big deal there, we’d all be lying if we said we never got to close to something with the bucket before! Haha. Can’t wait for your next video when you spread the rest of that stone and I really hope you feel better after your Covid shot.. I refuse to get mine but know a lot of people who have and they are fine. Your one of my favorite KZfaqrs! Get well soon!! 👍🏻

Hey good day Biff! You're most welcome and thanks for the help. I actually did much better using your advice - I still had a couple of half buckets during the day, but overall, had many more full buckets than I would normally. All better now so no worries. If I may ask, how many inches of the crusher would you say would be good on that area, to be able to say it is done, at least for a while?
@BiffsEquipment
@BiffsEquipment 3 жыл бұрын
@@GPOutdoors sure thing buddy! And I saw that! You did a great job and were def able to get more gravel in it looked like, once you broke it up and pulled some back even tho the stone looked wet it def helped cuz you were able to come in and get nice full buckets 👍🏻 As to the stone and how deep.. personally what I would have done was removed that material that you started doing in the very beggining all together, I woulda removed about 4” or so and used it for fill around your yard and then filled it level with stone up to your existing driveway.. being that you would have 4” of stone if you did it that way I would think you’d get another few years before it settled enough to have to add a new topcoat.. and once you topcoated it again then you’d prolly be able to go 4 years or so depending on how wet that spot stays. The way you did it was fine also but it won’t last as long but that’s ok as too can just add more stone over time when it settles/sinks during the wet season.. eventually the stone should start to pack in and hold a decent enough base to where you will only have to touch it up once every so many years with the rest of your driveway. Now if you get stone every single year to re-finish your driveway this won’t really matter as you’ll be putting a fresh top coat on it yearly anyways at which point the way you did this Job should be totally fine.. but next time I would recommend digging it out at least 2-4” to get down to some more solid ground all while being able to stack the stone deeper so that it can create a nice base for your future top coats. (That’s the general consensus anyways) lol. To answer your question I’d say as long as the area doesn’t stay too wet you should be ok with the amount you used for another year.. but if you can add another inch or two it’s only gonna help stiffen it up. If it feels nice and tight as it is tho then try leaving it and seeing how things feel as time progresses, worst case you may wanna add a bit more in the fall if it feels loose still. Hope this helps buddy! Again great job!

I have had mixed results with crusher run near the house. It is an ideal base if compacted with a vibrator, but it tracks miserably into the cottage on your shoes. I have covered my base with clean crushed granite 1/2 to 3/4 inch which does not pack but does not track indoors. And if it's available, granite (or similar) is much better than limestone gravel, albeit more expensive.

I have found that a bolt on cutting edge helps when back blading with the like you were doing in this video. I just have the Kubota smooth cutting edge, as opposed to some kind of tooth bar. I got it just to prevent wear on the bucket, but because it attaches ti the underside of the bucket edge there is a lip the thickness of the cutting edge and it helps drag material when back blading.

Got off the tractor and dad came over said we would fix it and just be more careful around the barn. He hopped on his tractor, started to pull away and ran his bucket right into the corner of the barn damaging the siding. I walked over looked at the damage, walked over to him sitting on his tractor and said "just be more careful around the barn" and we both busted up laughing.

Great job on the gravel. Takes a lot of practice to "master" it. Just got delivery on my LX2610. Looking forward to using it. Also, the 2nd COVID shot put me under too! Felt like the flu.

Gord, sorry the vax has got you down, blame it on the broken siding... I don't know if you have seen some of these guys on YT with box scrapers, but they are handy, simple tools. The trouble is you were in such a small space and the tractor is so big. Basically if you go forward using the blade, the blade bops up and down as the tractor moves with the undulations of the old road. The trick is to move backwards with it in the 'sweet spot' where the blade makes a perfectly flat surface. If you move the blade down from the sweet spot it will dig deeper as you move, and if you move the blade up from the sweet spot it will dig shallower as you move. But if you can hit the sweet spot you can make a flat plane every time. Not easy tho. Good luck!

Morning David - some excellent advice - thanks! I was thinking about getting a wider box blade but haven't yet. Thanks again - all the best!

I did something like that to the back of my house where I stored a stack of lumber last summer. Good thing I did, turns out I was getting carpenter ants in the house and soon after I moved the lumber no more carpenter ants! Nice work! Best Regards, Jay

Glad you got vaccinated, but sorry it knocked you for a loop. It didn't bother me at all, but the shingles vaccine is totally different story! Nice job on the gravel, a little more practice might be needed to reach the Mike Morgan standard though!! lol

Good for you for getting vaccinated! I know a lot of your viewers don’t believe in it. I wish everyone would just get their shot. I had my, got luck, zero side effects with both doses :) thanks for all the videos and keep it up.

I had both AstraZeneca vaccinations in March with zero side effects and I’m probably older than you? I think having these vaccinations is really the only way out of this pandemic and encourage everyone to get them.

Known is amazing! I keep a can in my tractor all the time. The whole family uses it for our vehicles every year. I even have my own spray gun and pail for their product to do my trailers. Highly recommend.
