Simple run prime95 and fur mark together for for 2 hrs at ALL stock settings. if it does not crash or flicker in any way run msi kombustor choose msi-01 and tick artifact scanner run for 1 hr, if no artifacts are detected keep it. if there is any weirdness run OCCT and choose vram test and run to see if it detects Vram issues. Hi Jay, I think you may be missing the used market dynamic that got disrupted with the 30 series. People got used to selling their old cards after a year, year and a half for 60% of its value (65% or more for high end cards) to put toward a new card. With the shortage, which caused the prices to skyrocket especially on used cards, people who would normally only be able to afford a decent used card, weren't able to help support those who wanted to subsidise their upgrade. This buried those who bought a new 30 series card, just like buying a new car when you haven't paid your old one down far enough. If you paid $1500 or $2000 for a 30 series card... are you going to be able to take the 40% hit (50 or 60% appears to be market, based on your video) to sell it and pay the same again. Personally, I used to upgrade my GPU every 2 generations and my CPU every 4. I paid $700 for my MSI 1080 TI Seahawk AIO. I can't consciously spend the same or more on a used 30 series card without warranty in today's economic climate, even if I get $300 for my card (which I can't). I've put a much lesser amount of my money into RAM and fan upgrades and seen a pleasant change in my PC environment as a result. I'm buying older games and still enjoying my 10th gen CPU. I think you might be surprised at how many people are actually doing this type of thing, instead of upgrading. I believe this has caused the stalling seen in the retail market more than people not wanting new cards. Yes, there are always people who will be able to shell out the money for expensive cards. I used to be one of them, but everyone has their limit of what they will pay.

Back in the day (you know, walked 9 miles to school, uphill both ways in a blizzard) I paid $499.99 for my MSI Duke GTX1080. I loved that card, until it died, . GPU prices were insane, then a friend sold me his GTX 1080 FE for $300.00 and I was happy again. Then a short time back he sold me his EVGA 2080ti for, $200.00. I'm not shopping for a GPU right now. Oh, I GAVE the GTX 1080 FE away, I never sell my old gear, I prefer not to deal with that. I still blame the people who paid stupid prices for GPUs for the stupid prices we see on GPUs now. They would be stupid not to raise prices after seeing so many willing to pay three times the normal price. A fair price is what the market will bear, boy did people not show it would bear a lot. People NEED to get over this "I have to have it" mentality and wait for more understandable pricing.

if you can afford it (and most young gamers can because they either have parents who spoil them or working citizens with maybe roommates), then there’s sales…. Clearly this massive price jump from the 3080 to the 4080 did not sit well with most people and so Nvidia will likely drop the price for the 50 series cards… similarly to how when the 30 series where introduced… MUCH CHEAPER AND BETTER THAN THE 20 SERIES!!! Since Nvidia dropped the prices from the 20 to the 30, they essentially spoiled new and old gpu consumers alike with better pricing…. I believe Sony had this issue with their PS3 pricing debut and Microsoft with their XBOX One pricing Vs the ps4 … I don’t think any company ever really fixed (or could for that matter) this aside from having more sales and trade ins but that’s pretty much it…. Sony and Microsoft just priced their later Gen consoles better than last time And long story short, expect nothing from Nvidia until the 50 series drop 🤣🥲

It'll knock on game development too. One of the dev complaints is about how long the 1060 lasted, and so every engine HAS TO be coded to that "old" standard. Well unless prices drop, people HAVE to keep their cards longer, so the standards needing to be supported are going to just get older.

The company I work for sell under the eBay refurbished program. This is a strict program that ebay has implemented that sellers have to apply for and prove they sell great products that are the actual item listed. Typically for a " eBay refurbished " item it doesn't mean there was an issue it means that it was gone through by a seller who has proven to a great seller and trust worthy along with doing testing and cleaning the item up. As a trusted eBay refurbisher seller information like this " it's had an issue " is rather misleading and can be harmful to the sales of those of us who have to prove ourselves. Just a few generations ago the high end cards were around $600-$800ish MSRP. The most I've spent on a new GPU was around $420 for a 6750XT and even that was a hard pill to swallow since I really don't game much these days. I think the majority of people are willing to spend in the range of $200-400 like you and I. It seems insane to me to spend anywhere near $1k on a GPU even if money were no object. @@Doggo_Norse Intel makes big steps with every new driver release. Situation has changed a lot during the last two months. Most problems I encounter today are not even releated to gaming - for example video playback on KZfaq is sluggish sometimes and sometimes even like a slideshow. Hitting F5 fixes that problem until it shows up again, so it is not such a big issue. But I hope they fix it so I don´t ruin my F5 key. ;) FPS under DX11 have also improved in many games. In other DXVK can help getting more FPS out of the ARC. Give the Arc til spring and it will be a great mainstream platform. The ARC 770 is a good card for the money today and it will be a real bargain if the bugs are ironed out. Payed 400 Euros for mine with 16 GB. That amount of memory in that price class is a statement and may force Nvidia and AMD to also pack some additional memory chips on their mainstream cards.

Going for a 4090 just because the 4080 and the 30 series pricing makes no sense and you're still paying for Jenson's wardrobe of leather jackets so I just went and bought a 7900XTX reference card at MSRP instead. Good one! Perhaps a bit better than the Dell pull (that would be very little usage, but not three fan card) 3060 Ti that I got for $350 (shipping included) off eBay in early October. The Ti version of the 3060 is significantly better than the 3060 and not that far off from the 3070. I plan to do a full upgrade to a more crazy card in a couple years with a complete system refresh (3060Ti is just to tide me over from the GTX 970 I was using since 2015).

Even if it was used for mining, I would pay that. I ran 24 mining cards during the pandemic and only 2 failed, and they were the same model where the fan bearings failed. The circuitry was fine.

@jd make sure you do the upgrade to the VRAM heat tape. 3080's and 3090's are notoriously bad for blowing up their VRAM if you don't have the proper thickness tape to ensure contact with the backplate and the heatsink. Don't believe the "its made to to run at 100c" hype.

In November I paid (converted to USD) around 330 USD. For an AORUS triple fan RTX 3060 TI. But it was second hand, from a store, with sealed/unbroken stickers on the card/screws and I doubt it was used for mining, since it was manufactured in March or April 2022. But even if so, then not for long. And I got still 1 year warranty from the store. Lucky moment that my old AMD RX 480 not died earlier or much later lol...

Historically I'd be a premium buyer where price point is irrelevant, but since the pandemic it's about what's in stock. Also, the output of these cards drastically exceeds my monitor resolution and framerate (3440x1440 @100 fps). In any game where my current card struggles (a 2080 TI, still going strong), I've been more likely to turn graphics down from Ultra to High than reach for my wallet and face this dilemma, and it gives me back the frames with barely-noticeable quality sacrifices. I expect the only difference a newer card would make is lower heat and fan speed for the same capped performance.

@@rustyshackleford5668 As a game developer, it usually quite literally is not. Ultra is just pushing the boundaries but sometimes its just allowing unoptimized options on, whereas high is just... Optimized ultra. In some rare cases Ultra serves a purpose, but most of the time you'd optimize for high and lower, and just leave ultra as "everything enabled" (including unoptimized settings) I also run 3440x1440 @120hz but on a 3080. It literally isn't eve struggling, 4k is overrated and people have been suckled into buying for it for no reason, my 3080 will easily last until 2024/25.

I'm in the exact same boat. I've got a 2080TI as well as a 3440x1440 120hz monitor and I really only struggle to run BRAND NEW AAA titles on ultra. I can't bring myself to spend so much on a new card just so I can hit ultra on a game that isn't in a finished state anyway lol I just turn on DLSS instead of spending $1600 haha

yes, excellent resolution! These GPU's are waaay more powerful than needed. Why use a 4k monitor unless you can drop $3k on a PC? Been gaming for 3 decades now and I am just NOW considering going to a 1440P monitor... but still keeping a 1080P for those just in case scenarios when a new game comes out and my PC struggles again... because that time WILL come!

Just bought 3 new GPUs to upgrade the PCs at home. Two went from RTX 2060 to RTX 3070 and one from GTX 1060 to RTX 3060. My son with the 1060 to 3060 got the best deal. He gained a lot for the money. My wifes and my PC not that much. On my RTX 2060 i had to reduce couple of details, was a mix of Medium and High settings and depending on the games i play, i used to get around 60-180fps. I play at 1080p 144Hz. Now with the RTX 3070 i get the same result, except i can put a mix of High to Ultimate settings. Fact is, with all the image quality technologies of today, there is a barely noticeable difference between a mix of medium+high and high+ultra. So if you are playing at 1080p and are running an RTX 2060 or anything equivalent, there isn't much need for upgrading. The only real noticable gain i noticed was in 2 VR games.

Yea man, if you have a 1440p monitor you will see the difference in those settings not 1080p. I know I did when I got a 1440p monitor and made me swap my 1060 to a 3070.

Mine is a 1st world problem. TLDR - I purchased a 7900XTX as i found one for £1,049.00 in stock fingers crossed delivered 24th Dec! Thats acceptable loss to me given this card is worth realistically £800 ?? ---- I don't get much time to game during most of the year, but when Dec hits, it's my peak gaming time! (I travel a LOT with work, and no SteamDeck does not scratch the massive screen candy itch). I've been waiting to upgrade for years and years, and running stuff on low settings just takes the fun and immersion for me. As much as I hate the situation of the pricing at the moment, I also want to enjoy the hobby I basically get to use for a very short time of the year. I can 100% afford to get a 2K 4090, but it breaks any logic to spend that much F*****g money on a single component its just plain wrong and I point blank refuse! MSRP yes ok fine, but that is rarer than unicorn tears. Totally agree with Steve's take on MSRP is just thrown out there to never be reached after launch. At first i was supper annoyed with AMDs 7900XTX pricing as AIB cards are plus 150-200 on the MSRP which is 4080 territory which is overinflated. Initially I thought AMD done what NVIDIA done and basically MSRP is like a dream price that is never going to be achievable. However, it seems that the Reference cards are trickling through and stocks are being replenished, hopefully this carries on and if people are happy with this over inflation loss better than the 4080 inflation loss then its a buy a just enjoy, stop reading all the rubbish and blank it out. I managed to snag a PowerColor reference card for £1,049.00 (yesterday 22nd Dec) delivery 24th Dec (fingers crossed!). Its a case of horses for courses - for me i am happy with a 200-300 loss, totally get that some people are not in the same position as me, but equally this is my hobby and i want to enjoy it.... sadly these companies are taking the p*** out of us! Sorry if you think i've fed the devil by making the purchase, but equally life is short and i want to enjoy the things i want to enjoy.

I can totally relate. It was a hard decision but I went for an all AMD build this time so I can use the CPU till the socket isnt supported anymore and but the 3D-V-Cache newest CPU before they introduce the new socket to save some bucks. Since I dont have a focus on RTX games AMD was cheaper AND I wawnted to support AMD this time. Yes the prices of GPUs are ridiculous but AMD managed to make a new GPU architecture AND drop the price for it at the same time. Im quite excited what that means for RDNA 4.

I got a 7900XTX Powercolor reference card a few days ago aswell. In my country the 4080 costs 400-500 euros more than the 7900XTX. The last AMD card I had before was about 15 years ago. The 7900XTX replaced my old 2080Ti and it completely blew my fucking mind @ 1440p.

I feel very much the same. I could have easily dropped the money for a 4090 but I felt like they was taking the mick. I order a 7900xtx PowerColor referenced card for £1049.00 yesterday too, getting delivered today which is a shock as I thought it would have been after Christmas. Got mine from CCL. I feel the 7900xtx is the lesser of the 2 evils. Also I have a MATX build so it's nice to have a card that's smaller than my current one.

I get people are upset at pricing but we need to come to reality with inflation, it is real and it is here to stay even if it goes down it will never be 2016 pricing it's almost 8 years old. I sell A/C systems for residential houses for a living, they use to cost 1k to 1600 USD for a system from 2-5 ton back in 2016/17. Now a 2 ton system is legit 2k and a 5 ton is 4k+. Things will never be same and we need to understand that.
