It's weird to me that the door buttons dont have backlighting. The base model hatches have it so you'd think... i wonder if the power is there so you could just swap switch plates. Hmm.

If that is the case I would definitely consider doing that

Fair points, especially about the door controls. My beloved GRC turned 1 year old this week, and the window/door lock controls absolutely need more bumps to do by feel. The wind buffeting with the windows down gets really bad, but I found keeping the front windows at the same level helps with that.
@teejaylc

That's good to know. I haven't had much windows down time since it's still pretty cold in PA. Happy birthday to your GRC

Agree on the wireless charger - it’s worthless and there needs to be a TSB for it. I replaced the door controls with backlit ones and wrapped the piano black interior pieces

Nice! I'm sure that looks good. I hope there is a SB soon but for that to happen there would probably need to be a lot of ppl going to the dealership complaining about the charging system

They just revamped the Yaris interior in Europe so im interested to see if Toyota gives the GRC a similar treatment.

The GRC needs it. I get it, all the budget was spent on performance but the car feels like a performance economy from the inside and I think they could have done a few changes to fix that

Man I'd take the hand-blocking-knob any day over the Cadillac iCue system I have now. Its a piano black capacitive touch system that makes everything 300x harder than it needs to be lol. Just trying to change which vent the air comes out of takes 11 button presses and there is nearly no feedback at all about what you hit. Its worse than trying to use your cell phone to text in terms of distraction.

I definitely agree with most of these. Just went over break in mileage on mine - have the same year, trim and color you do. First time I saw the foam I was like wtf is this lol. Interior is sub par but Im coming from the Sti world so the shock factor wasnt there as much. I had a 2020 RS3 and the interior is like night and day in comparison though. I also think that the “upgraded” sound system could be a little better too
@teejaylc

Nice congrats on putting the miles on! Time to rip! Lol whites the best color. That's what I'm saying about the foam... I'm surprised more ppl aren't commenting on that. I had an STI as well so I can relate. Yes comparing the rs3 interior to this is unfair haha but it's reality

Also the sound system isn't the greatest but not bad. I also hate the way the speakers are shaped on the A pillars

I think that a lot of your gripes are from a direct comparison to a car that, by your words, is twice the cost. That additional cost gets you a lot more refinement. Wireless charging is limited to 5 watts. Standard wired chargers are 15 watts or 25 watts. I"m 6'3 and have no issues with the seating position at all. I've been driving Toyotas for most of my driving life, maybe that is just how Toyota has their overall ergonomics setup. This is a Corolla. Yes, it has a different engine/transmission/brakes than any other sub-model of Corolla, but at the end of the day it is still a Corolla. You cannot expect Mercedes Benz luxury from a Corolla. This also extends to the wider body panels - it is a Corolla. Temper your expectations accordingly. To my ear, there was no significant difference in the about of sound/noise from the 2 vehicles you recorded. The Audi had a slightly overall higher pitch/tone to it's noise... That's about it. I fully agree that the piano black shifter surround gets dusty constantly, and like you, I have a microfiber cloth in my GR Corolla at all times. Overall, I would say that you bought the wrong car. Its pretty clear that the euro sport/luxury is more your thing, and there is nothing wrong with that. You're comparing an econobox car (with a powerful and reliable engine/transmission setup) to a sporty/luxury car with it's respective powerplant setup. This is an apples and oranges comparison. From my 6 months of ownership, I can point out a few items that I'm really not a fan of. There should be no standard rubber/nylon brake or clutch lines - they should all be braided steel with a black exterior coating. The notchiness of shifting is not consistent. When it's cold, it takes more effort to push from 1st to 2nd, etc. That hints to me that the gear oil is sub-par, and I'll be changing that out soon. Along with that, I replaced the factory rubber shift bushings with spherical ones - that was a huge upgrade for shifting. The brake pedal is soft like a pillow. It should be rock solid when you get to 50% of the pedal travel. The pitch stop mount should be fully filled - with no air gaps - even with just the factory vulcanized rubber. The increase in NVH would be minimal, but the solid feel of the shifter would increase, making for a more consistent/predictable. The suspension design leaves a bit to be desired. Camber on the front & rear should all be adjustable from the factory. The Core & Premium should've come with the Corolla XSE wing, whereas the Circuit should have the Circuit specific wing. Also, the f'n screen should be OFF by default, not ON. I hate it when that screen is on. The last thing anyone needs while driving is something else to distract them. It makes sense to have it one if the maps/GPS is being used, but that's it.

Thank you for commenting! I appreciate it. It's one of those things where I kinda knew what I was buying but coming from even a 2011 gti was even a huge shock when it comes to interior. I was figuring that a 2024 corolla with a 40k+ price tag would have a little more going on in the interior. My thought is that it doesn't look like they put any effort into it vs a base corolla. That is not right. You have a lot of good things I agree with. I believe with the modifications I've done to the interior has drastically improved my thought on the car. As far as buying the wrong car. I don't think so. I'm not buying any car to keep forever. It more of an experience and a journey to explore what's out there. I had owned the car for 6 months and that's already longer than a big percentage of ppl that have bought one can say. At least from what I've seen in FB groups. Those cars go for sale faster than they are selling. At the end of the day, the car was pretty close to what I expected it to be after the days of research before buying one. But I'm not going to argue with you how you noticed my true love is euro. I'm hoping that you love your car and enjoy it to the fullest. I have had great times in my GRC already but is it my last car... Not even close. Appreciate you! Thanks for Watching the video 👍🏼

On a second note. It's also very hard to not compare cars to other cars you have personally experienced. And I tired to not do that and also understand it's unfair but when you experience more.. it does make it harder lol

@@teejaylc The extra cost of the GR Corolla went into the chassis stiffening and the entire powerplant, running gear and seats. I'm in my mid 40's and have owned 11 cars in my 2+ decades of driving. I have no intentions of ever selling this car, that is just not how I am. I've never purchased a car with the thought of ever selling it, but reality kicks in and some cars that I bought I was happy to sell. Like my old AE86. What an unimpressive, slow and boring car. Here's the basic list in roughly the correct order of purchase: 87 Supra. 86 Mr2 NA. 88 AllTrac Celica. 87 Mr2 Supercharged. 87 Corolla GTS (AE86). 82 Starlet (2 of these). 99 Impreza 2.5RS. 88 Corolla FX16 GTS. 2006 WRX Wagon. 2024 GR Corolla. Only the Supra was automatic - everything else was manual. The AE86 was, without except, the least interesting car that I've ever owned. Even the Corolla FX16 GTS (AE82) was far more interesting and exciting to drive, and that was even more of an econobox than the AE86. Same engine, but it had the same transmission (gearing) as the AW11, and that gearbox makes all the difference. But comparing anything, aside from my GR Corolla, to my former AW11 is unwise. That car was truly sublime. It was an instant reaction car and it was not even remotely forgiving - you turn too much and don't understand how to manage it, you'll spin. Press to hard on the brake pedal and your forehead will likely hit the steering wheel. The throttle pedal was intentionally extra firm. Is my GR Corolla the most comfortable? No, that was the Supra. Does it have the most forgiving ride? No, the AE86 had the softest suspension and my former AW11 was far harsher. Does the GR Corolla have the most reactive throttle response? No, that was my former AW11. Is my GR Corolla the loudest? Not even close. In my former AW11 at wide open throttle, anything above 4000rpms was so loud you could not hear yourself scream, and with a redline of 7200rpm, it was obscenely and deafeningly loud, but when you're going 115mph through a turn you simply don't care as you keep your foot buried to the steel. :) Does the GR Corolla have the most reactive brake pedal? No, that was my former AW11 - 3 inches of pedal travel total until it felt you like were stepping on a brick (I miss this dearly). But, what the GR Corolla does have is an incredible combination effect. The chassis is by far the strongest and stiffest, it is the most powerful car I've ever owned (I've driven more powerful cars), it has front and rear LSDs, it has a very effective shifter mechanism (with minor work it'll be near perfect), the reaction to steering inputs in incredibly impressive and despite it's weight (3200ish lbs) is more nimble than my former AW11 (2680lbs), but not as nimble as my former KP61 Starlet (1800lbs). If you do want a sporty luxury car that is Japanese, you've got to aim higher - Lexus and Acura in specific. There are some Nissan vehicles that hit close to that target like the 370z. As per euro cars, I have nothing against them personally, but they're just not my cup of tea. I know that the engineering that goes into them is extensive and impressive, and that alone deserves respect. I know that with some bolt-on parts and a flash tune, GTIs are ridiculously fast, and that goes to demonstrate the engineering time and effort that goes into those cars. Again, mad props for that.

@@teejaylc I understand where you're coming from. Each car is unique. Judging a car by its own merits is a healthy exercise - it helps to remove bias, and helps you appreciate it as it sits, while also being able to be honest about its flaws. I can say that the interior of my GR Corolla is nice, but it isn't amazing. The exterior is very aggressive, and knowing that the rear arches are bolted onto the base Corolla sheet metal will give the potential of uneven panel gap. Admittedly, my long term concerns are: the radiator, the intercooler, the oil temps and air intake temps. Each of those will be addressed. Anywho. I'm rambling. :)

Taking any other car out of the picture still won't change my mind about the interior. I bought the car hoping the handling would be really good, which it's not great. Body roll is a lot. And I liked the way it looks. The looks definitely didn't let me down at all. The car is beast when it comes to looks though

You are not being realistic. You pay $20k more for an Audi with similar performance. I’d rather get the GR over any Audi. In 5 years, the GR is going to be a collectors’ car and the Audi will be worthless.

The road noise is surpassingly worse than my old 2020 wrx. The seating is also way too high, and with the addition of it only being manually adjusted makes it worse. Center stack is really odd and wastes a lot of usable space. I don’t want to use the cup holders because it will rub on the softex cover on the e brake which can wear it out. Interior creaks are already everywhere. Also, don’t know if I’m blind/dumb, but there is no button to open the trunk from inside the car. The battery terminals to get unscrewed is a pain in the ass a bit. Still love it though 😂
@teejaylc

I agree with this all. Highway noise is terrible and your 100% right about the cup holders rubbing the ebrake! My drink is always titling sideways hahaha. The interior is a wreck and everyone is ignoring it because it has a few racecar parts. But yes it's still a really great/fun car to drive but I think I want to spend my money modding the interior lol I feel like I'm dropping kids off at school when I get in it
