In this video we'll share with you our overall impressions and final thoughts about GR11 trail. We did split it in two years hiking for 10 days or so each year and of course we didn't accomplish it fully from start to finish. The GR11 is 840 kilometers long trail that is stretching the entire length of the Spanish Pyrenees from on the Hondarribia Atlantic Coast to Cap de Creus on Mediterranean Coast or vice versa. And it is usually divided in 46 day long sections. We were on a trail around 20 days and doing our own stages we covered approximately 280 kilometers doing 15 or 20 kilometers a day. But because we hiked in different areas we have a good idea of what the trail is like and can provide you some insights and tips in regards. We are going to discuss the difficulty and planning of the trail, backpack weight, gear and food to take, distance and stages, wild camping and accommodation among many other things.

We are a couple who once fell in love with mountains and couldn't get back. So we decided to follow our heart and move from a big city to a small village to be able to do what we love and to create this content. Our goal is to promote the healthy lifestyle, to motivate people to travel more and care for nature around. We are passionate walkers who love hiking, trekking and camping. We offer the detailed information of our hikes and routes, including the map and all the directions, so that you can repeat it if you'd like to.
We choose walking over driving and other types of transportation whenever we can because we learnt that this way we see so much more and can explore and feel the place better. Walking is an excellent activity that has so many benefits to your health and requires no special equipment or practice, so we encourage you to get the most out of it and get out walking.
We speak English, Spanish, French and Russian, so don't hesitate to address to us in your native language.

Having experimented over the years, I find that protein powders can be messy and need to be made into a shake, the container needs to be washed afterwards too to keep it clean and hygienic. Some shakes need to be mixed with milk rather than water, so watch out for that too, so read the label carefully. I find it much easier to carry protein supplements in tablet or capsule form. Tablets don’t need to be mixed with anything, just a mouthful of water. The protein supplements are sometimes known as Branch Chain Amino Acids (BCAA). When looking at them, look at the strength as some need numerous tablets or scoops per day whereas the stronger/more concentrated need much less (that means less weight to carry. I guess that the big bulky pack (with bulking agents) caters for the psychology of the body builder who wants to be big, but you want concentrated, low bulk and low weight.

Yes, you are probably right about the convenient format of capsules, it is much better to carry. Have to look into this topic more, as it is truly vital when you are burning that much calories and losing strength. Thank you as always for detailed comments.

Thanks a lot for your nice comment! You can stay in refugios along the way, some of them are payable and some are not, but it is a different way and you need to plan your stages carefully according to the refugios where to stay. There are hostels in the villages too. Some stages may be quite long as there are big gaps between the places to stay so having a lightweight tent as a backup at least will help a lot to be more flexible. But we do realize that it is an extra weight also which on this kind of chalenging trail is better to avoid. We are quite sure you can find some great guides out there of people who stayed in hostels and refugios.
