I loved that team even though they under-performed and had the talent to win more than a couple of FA Cups. Robson, Stapleton and Coppell were such good footballers. It's amazing Martin Tyler is still commentating.

13 years old and on my way out thinking we aint beating everton on their patch( they would have been champions of europe a couple of years later if it wasnt for the vermin). Heard the crowd and turned round in time to see it hit the back of the net. Awesome noise awesome feeling. Mint

I was on my way out as a disapointed 14 year old thinking we had no chance in the replay as Everton were very good in those times. As im going i could hear the excitement rising so i turned round just in time to see the goal. Instantly a guy with a mohican started belting me so we had had bit of a tear up cos of this goal. Smashed shit out of each other till the final whistle, when we hugged each other. Fantastic day. Hope your well unknown mohican guy.

This is it! This 1983 cup run cemented my alliance to Manchester United. I was only 13, but this was I thought the best team I'd ever seen! I might live in the past, but wow, the football seemed so much more exciting then.
@redflag89704 жыл бұрын
cup had that effect
@murchuan87823 жыл бұрын
I think so too...football more exciting as most players played with freedom and their own intuition... now I feel players are playing to set patterns....less off the cuff....
@gary16422 жыл бұрын
Evertonian here Luke. I was 16 and at the game. Football was better then no doubt. Players played with fight in them. No time wasting or throwing themselves to the floor. Referees who gave fouls for fouls not because a player fell over. I watched the Utd v Madrid game tonight mate. The final ten minutes was everything that's wrong in football. The ball was hardly in play , the ref stopping the game for injuries when replays show there was no contact. The games been ruined. I honestly don't fully understand the offside or handball laws the way they've been changed. Good luck for the remainder of the season except when we play each other, God knows we need the points not looking good.

Loved the old Trafford stadium before the taylor report it was my favourite ground when football was football proper players proper packed terraces and proper admission prices for the working class! The fans from this day and age don’t have a clue from the 80s! Every stadium should have a big home standing terrace like back then it would be perfectly safe and get some some sort atmosphere back the grounds cos today’s match experiences is like watching footie in library!!! Cheers From a BLADES Fan SUFC👊

Behind the Everton goal, never heard a bang of noise when the goal went in to this day and still go home and away with Everton, back to Old Trafford next Friday night in the FA CUP but won't be like it was back then 14 thousand, fun and games everywhere.

How I miss games like this . The magic of Man united . One things for sure the everton keeper had a brilliant game in goal .
@matthewwright78313 жыл бұрын
I enjoyed that, the kits were at their peak brilliantness this era.I would have watched this in envy as I'd never seen liverpool win the fa cup up to this time in my life and they were long gone thanks to Jimmy Case of all people. Cracking final with Brighton who had their chance late on if my memory still works. The Fa cup was on a par with the world cup in my mind in this era...at least we were there.

I was there on that day. Everton had a very good team but in the second half, it was clear they were happy to get a draw and force a replay at Goodison. Stapleton's volley was a lovely piece of skill set up nicely by Macari who came on for Duxbury as I recall. I think Robbo was injured for that game.

I know we got totally spoilt with success later on under Fergie but, if you're around the same age as me (51) you'd understand that the mid-80's was such a wonderful time to be a teenager and following United all over the country during the Atkinson days. Despite both Scouse team's dominance - and I'll hold my hands up, what great teams they both had back in those days - United proved time and again that, on any given day, we were a match for anyone. Inconsistency and, dare I say it, Injuries let us down in that period.
