i thought you couldn't place the rookie under. wouldn't it die for not having dp?

Deletion by not having DP only occurs after an effect finishes resolving. But with the tamer, you are tucking and digivolving all in a single effect, so by the time the effect finishes the digimon already has DP again. That's why it doesn't die.
