Graco customer support was not surprised by that. They said that it means the pump failed. Sadly a replacement pump cost too much to be worth it and they wouldn't warranty cover it since I didn't have the receipt.

Im still fuzzy on this one, the unit *would* spray **paint** but would NOT spray *water* and that means the pump failed? How can it spray a substance 10x denser than water but not plain water? Its like saying your car broke down but it WILL do 85 mph on the highway but NOT 15 mph in a school zone. Also, these things don't need to be cleaned out every time you fill up the reservoir. You're saying that the cleaning time cancels out any time savings gained and a roller is just as quick? you're definitely doing something wrong then. Spraying is WAY faster when done correctly with high end equipment like this. I've left paint in the unit overnight, come back to the project the next day, popped in a fully charged battery, flipped the tip over, primed the pump, and it sprays the remainder of the cup beautifully. Lastly all this talk about straining the paint. Why? The instructions dont call for it for a reason: its a waste of time. If you are using new paint procured from the store recently and machine mixed you can pour it right through a tight funnel into the cup and you're fine. No clogs. Eliminate all these extra steps, cut the fat and youll find a whole new experience. This is an $800 sprayer, use it like one!

@@MikeGScott-kn4rq So, I will admit I don't know how the pump functions, but as soon as I said what it was doing the customer support guy said that means the pump wore out. My one thought is maybe the thicker paint is easier to build up to enough pressure. I don't know how you left it overnight without clogs. It's been a while now, but my memory is I couldn't leave it 3 hours without it clogging. As far as why strain the paint - if I didn't, the screen would clog and it would stop spraying in the middle of a project. I did this over and over many times before giving up and deciding I have to always strain the paint. Also, it's a $400 sprayer, not 800.

@@TheRacerRich Ahh. Theres the problem. I have 2 of the later model cordless sprayers which are also TC pros. I think even though the body is the. same Graco did some serious engineering upgrades for its debut. They were 769 plus tax at Lowes a couple months ago now dropoed to 570 if you can find them in stock at that price. Try the cordless ones that are powered by Dewalt batteries. You'll see what I mean.

I have done this. If you do what I recommend (leave the gun as is, making sure not to let air in the bag, take off the tip and throw it in a bucket of water, and then when you come back to the gun let air in the back, clean off the filter under water, then put it back in and get to spraying) this will be fine, but I wouldn't want to go more than say 6 hours tops.

Markus Etter leave it in Spray but switch it to prime before you open it to clean the filter prior to starting again. When you switch it to prime it dumps the pressure back into the canister, which will put air into the system.
