Gradius III on SNES was my childhood. It was so difficult that I never beat it (always Game Overed at the speedy stage), but those tunes are engraved in my memory

Gradius; not to be confused with the one Yugioh card Duke Devlin likes to use occasionally it's a pretty fun space shooter that really got me into the genre.

As a longtime fan of the series, it hurts seeing nothing from them for god knows how long. Darius had a satisfying grand finale in Chronicle Saviours. R-Type has finally come to an end with Final 2. The Fire Leo ships' battle ended in Thunder Force 6. But the Vic Viper and Planet Gradius are still locked in an eternal struggle against the Bacterians for eons unless we get a new game.

I've been trying this game repeatedly at my local arcade. I never got very far, but it's still pretty cool.

This has to be fate because i just got through talking about Zone of the Enders with my friends and how cool Vic Viper is when this reminds me oh yeah Vic Viper IS in Gradius lol. Seriously Konami we need a new ZOE.

I found interesting that back at one arcade I was used to go back in 1994 had Gradius III for a little while (about 1 week) and they challenged players to beat it as pretty much nobody had managed to beat the very 1st stage, I only had ONE chance to play it and the irony is that I dunno how the heck I managed to pull it off, but beated the game that time, the arcade operators just couldn't help but have circled anime eyes as they had to fullfil their part of the deal of the challenge (can't remember what I got as a reward sadly), not to mention the players who tried the game just got shocked to see how stage 1 was NOTHING in terms of difficulty as the later stages were a big "gut in the pain" (yeah, that was written out of order) to deal with, the volcano stage, the crystal maze and the very long final stage that starts with the Boss Rush were the stages they felt frustrated to just watch me play due to how unfair the game is (it didn't help either that the Vic Viper's collision boxes were big and that ONE specific enemy in the final stage had wonky collision boxes as well). Still, one of the things I loved is how my bros' pranks backfired big time, and since then I loved the Gradius games.

I first played the NES version when I got gifted from my grandma a bootleg plug n play system that claimed to have 72000 games on it when they were all NES games and there weren't even that many. I didn't even know there were differences compared to the Arcade original.

There actually is a series of yugioh cards based on both the player ships and BES cruisers. It doesn't make a competitive deck but it's a lot of fun to play

Well gradius was released every single console back then except SEGA Master System and Genesis/Megadrive, I was really sad about gradius not been released on these 2 Systems

You should try doing countdowns on the bosses in the Gradius franchise and its spinoffs.
