One of my friends has applied for a graduate program for Fall in the Food sciences department. On the program requirement, securing an advisor is one of the minimum requirements. Should securing an advisor be done before applying to the program or can the candidate wait until a decision is made? Or is it a deciding factor? If it is a deciding factor, it is not a mandatory detail as part of the application. There is confusion in this regard. It would be really helpful if anyone has information about it. Thank you.

Hey.. I've applied for a graduate program as well and it said on my application form that, without having an advisor/supervisor when applying the application is likely to be rejected.

It is advisable to get the supervisor first before you complete your application since it is a requirement. Your application may not be processed or reviewed without this requirement.

Please I applied for MSc. Entomology and with the requirements, it wasn’t stated that I needed a supervisor before application. But filling the application form, they provided a supervisor portion which however had (optional) written beside the supervisor column. I didn’t fill that portion since I didn’t contact any supervisor due to the requirements I read earlier about the program.Please will that affect my application?

Yes, it will. Most application requires that you get supervisor

It will not affect your application since it is optional for your selected program.

@@jonathanchirifuleticia1984 no You are to upload your transcript yourself. Kindly check if you sent the right copy or it’s not the format they want … usually it takes 15min max for the portal to tick received of documents
