1984. Williams AFB. Pilot in my squadron driving to work gets t-boned and killed by a drunk driver blowing through a stop sign. Left behind his lovely young wife and two small children. Drunk walked away with minor injuries. Still makes me feel sick to this day. Life in prison is not even close to justice.

I do not drink and never did. But a DRUNK driver who was THREE TIMES over the legal limit AT NOON hit me...came out of nowhere off a side road and damn near killed me. This is something you never get over! was this driver hurt? NO...but then it seems the drunk never is. I STILL have issues because of this and more than likely always will!!! It is a real tragedy a CHILD was killed in this accident and in my estimation he should NEVER see the light of day again!!!

A bigger question is why do bars/taverns/pubs have parking lots? Shouldn't they just have a pull thru lane for taxicabs or Ubers or sober drivers picking up drunks? They should never be a parking lot or any place nearby to park a car for a drunk to get into. Should bars be required to collect the automotive keys upon entering and the patron required to blow into a breathalyzer before serving alcohol? Then be required to blow again before the keys can be returned to the patron? Would this help to solve the problem of drunk driving? Or better yet, why do we have public places that serve alcohol? What purpose to society do they serve? Should there only be package stores so you can purchase and go home and drink? I guess the next logical question is why do people drink alcohol in the first place. Is it good for them? is it good for society in general? Deep thoughts.

This is why i insisted on learning to drive standard. I was at a party i wasn't supposed to be at, my companions got drunk, and I couldn't drive us home. While they were busy fighting over the car keys I chose life and called my uncle. Bless him, he got up, came after me, took the keys from them, drove everyone home, and the only thing he said to me was " this can stay between us, bc you made the right decision. If you're ever in trouble, calling me is the right decision." He probably should have told my parents, bc I was only 13, but I actually did learn a valuable lesson...always make sure you have a safe way to get home.

Prayers to the family! Unfortunately the justice system seems to get quite soft once it gets to the courts. Maybe if we started giving some actual consequences to crimes we'd see less of them. In our area, the police seem to have started taking a "why bother" attitude on many lower crimes and I'm sure it's that way in other places too.

3:49 Sorry, Sheriff, drinking & driving is not "stupidness." It's wanton disregard for human life. And spending 2 weeks or 20 years sitting in the naughty chair, so to speak, is not justice for wantonly taking the life of an innocent 5-year-old girl. Actual justice has a much steeper price.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. DUI should be a "Once And Done" conviction. It doesn't matter if it's alcohol, marijuana or drugs, a first time offense would require a total revocation of a driver's license. Driving is merely a privilege, not a right and DUI is already illegal in all 50 states. However, we have too may people who have obtained a DUI conviction and only have their license suspended and they reoffend. I've heard of individuals with as many as 9 DUI suspensions and they're are still able to drive. So it's time to make the penalties tougher by revoking that privilege after just one offense. In this specific case, this guy should be going to jail for the rest of his life for killing this child and badly injuring the parents. Making the penalties tougher will take more dangerous people off the road. Some enhanced penalties would include jail time, substantial fines and even forfeiture of the vehicle. If any person convicted of a DUI is caught driving any vehicle with a revoked license it would be a felony charge and forfeiture of the vehicle, regardless of who owns the vehicle. This would make people think harder about loaning their vehicle to a friend or family member. Make the penalties harder on DUI and it will work.

Its always the same. A intoxicated driver gets involved in an injury accident, the individual(s) in the other car gets injured, possible killed, and the intoxicated driver walks away.

When I was a young man, 63 years old now, I used to drink and drive. I cannot tell you how many times I would wake up the next morning and wonder how I got home and parked the car. I would look out the window and see my car perfectly parked in its usual place. I must have been one of the best drunk drivers in the country because I never got one DUI/DWI. I thought I could drive and drink, and as long as I stayed in my lane, I would be OK. Today, I am a recovered alcoholic, and every time the I see a video such as this, I get a "queasy" feeling in the pit of my stomach, KNOWING full well my mug shot could be on display as this drunk driver's picture was, or that I could have killed innocent people, including children. But for the Grace of God, I didn't have any accidents that could have resulted in a death or life-changing injury to innocent people or even to myself. I thank God, and have thanked Him a thousand times, that I hadn't ever hurt anybody due to driving drunk. People, please take it from me and DO NOT drink and drive. This man is going to prison! All you have to do is make THE decision to not drink and drive. MAKE THE DECISION before you even take that first sip of alcohol! Get a designated driver! This is one of the biggest fears to unintentionally kill a someone, let alone a child. This guy is going to see that 5 year olds eyes in his dreams, nightmares and non consciousness for the rest of his life. Even when he has a moment of joy, his non conscious will revert back to his guilt. If you have a soul or an ounce of humanity, that mental anguish is worse than any prison sentence that a judge could sentence
