During the 1950s I used rubber bands to bud tens of thousands of hybrid tea roses each summer. I found that the rubber bands were the best to use for budding.

I really didn’t know about rubbers, I’m too young I guess. I’ll also consider them too.

Does buddy tape need to be removed after once grafted parts get successful?
@TrulyTropical

No. It degrades in sunlight, so it's definitely a time saver in many ways.

Very useful video. At least for me. I want to ask you one thing if you have any free time of course.. ..If you use a grafting tape for sealing an injured bud(part bitten off by a cat) of a rooted cutting (mulberry), can u do it right away over the bud or is it more advisable to cut the bud clean off and rely on the two lower buds? Can you help me with an advice? Its a stressed cutting from earlier overwatering before it had its roots, so i'm hesitant on what to do, thats why i wanted to ask you. If it will help for info - i keep them under plastic bottles, in a heated room (68-75 Fahrenheit), sprayed with clonex every 3,4 days, with sunshine during the day, but not direct sunlight.

Can electrical and duck tape be used for grafting?
@masondegaulle5731
@masondegaulle5731 3 жыл бұрын
both electrical and duct tape are vast majority solvent-based adhesive, graft wouldn't like it much BUT you can just turn it around, adhere it to itself. You could use something else to protect the graft first, but then you may as well go for a solution that doesn't require additional wrappings. I've used teflon (plumber's) tape in a pinch to repair a split in a sapling, but I changed it out as soon as the repair had taken enough, didn't like it.

When using electrical tape, I only use white to maintain cooler temperatures. It also fails to properly degrade in sunlight and needs to be cut after 3 weeks. I've also used masking tape, but it lacks elasticity, once again, solar degradation is inconsistent.

I’ve had good success with electrical tape but it’s tough on the graft when you remove it and tends to rip off bark. I’ve had about the same success rate using flagging tape and latex paint, with less damage.

Would masking tape work for grafting ?
@masondegaulle5731
@masondegaulle5731 3 жыл бұрын
Masking tape is quite rigid, unless the graft is particularly straight, I wouldn't recommend it.

I like to cut bike inner tubes for grafting rubber
@TrulyTropical
@TrulyTropical 6 жыл бұрын
Excellent! I love new uses for stuff that's normally discarded. (assuming they're busted tubes) I assume you remove them after the graft has healed as it seems that it would take a long time for that rubber to degrade in sunlight.

Truly Tropical yeah damaged used tubes, that’s my favorite part they last for 2 years or more in direct sunlight, we can use them many times. I also use them for tools, fruit pickers etc. Awesome farm tool.

Rubber budding strips seal in moisture well and won't restrict growth. No tools needed to apply or remove (the one we offer biodegrades after 2-3 weeks.) Turn to Aero Rubber if we can help! www.aerorubber.com
