Hyman Gouldman sometimes was called “Hyme the Rhyme” by his son Graham.

Famous composer in the sixties (Look through any window; Bus stop; For your love; No milk today); member of 10CC in the seventies (he is one of the composers of "I'm not in love"); member of the duo Wax UK in the eighties (with the hit "Right between the eyes"). Graham Gouldman is a rock legend!

Gouldman is now in the Songwriters Hall of Fame where he rightly belongs. 1965-66, what an incredible 2 years he had and it didn't end there as he continued to write great songs for his band 10CC.

In 2020 - what a clear, clean, beautiful rendition of his classic song, made popular by Herman's Hermits - when their lead singer was also 15-16 years old! Gouldman's voice - and all of their voices - so clear, and still so full of youth! They make this song sound so easy - but the chord changes, minor to major, and back again, with the mood of the lyrics as they change, while singing, is actually difficult. What a bunch of pro's. He wrote some GREAT songs - what an amazing ear for a subtle Hook, and beautiful chords and lyrics. Thanks for posting this. So many people are left out of the common history of music - and writers eclipsed by those who sang the songs they wrote, before singer/songwriters became the rule, and not the exception.

Read the book Wild Tales by Graham Nash. The Hollies went to visit Graham Goldman and were blown away that He had written Bus Stop, Look Through Any Window, and No Milk Today and He was only 15 at the time.

Steve Paul And let’s give a shout-out to Graham’s loving supportive dad, nicknamed “Hyme the Rhyme” for the help he gave there as well!

And what The Hollies (likely) didn't know when they first visited Graham Gouldman, to hear Gouldman play "Look Through Any Window" and "Bus Stop" is that Gouldman was a nephew of Hollies manager Mike Cohen.

Wild Tales is a great look at that time.

He may have been a bit older than that (he would have been 15 in 1961), but he was definitely churning out hits while still in his teens.

We love Peter & the Hermits, of course. But it's NICE to hear the AUTHOR sing it. Btw, Hermits never quite did THESE backing vocal harmonies which are RICH and TIMELESS like 16th century minstrels in the 21st....Shakespeare would have LOVED this, I'm sure.

So talented! Have seen this group a few times, but the first time was in Napier NZ. Had just arrived there & saw they were performing that evening. Very grateful to get a couple of tickets in the ‘Gods’. Finished with Rubber Bullets - I was on my feet straightaway. Turned round at the end and everybody else was still seated. Still when you pass 60 you aren’t easily embarrassed!

NO MILK TODAY "No milk today" - my love has gone away. The Bottles stands forlorn A symbol of the dawn "No milk today" - it seems a common sight But people passing by Don't know the reason why How could they know just what this message means The end of my hopes - the end of all my dreams How could they know a palace there had been Behind the door where my love reigned as Queen. "No Milk Today" - it wasn't always so The company was gay We turned night into day As music played - the faster did we dance We felt it both at once The start of our romance How could they know just what this message means The end of my hopes - the end of all my dreams How could they know a palace there had been Behind the door where my love reigned as Queen "No milk today" - my love has gone away The bottles stands forlorn A symbol of the dawn.... But all that left is a place dark and lonely A terraced house in a mean street back of town Becomes a shrine when I think of you only Just two up, two down "No milk today" - it wasn't always so The company was gay We turned night into day As music played - the faster did we dance We felt it both at once The start of our romance How could they know just what this message means The end of my hopes - the end of all my dreams How could they know a palace there had been Behind the door where my love reigned as Queen "No milk today" - my love has gone away The bottles stands forlorn A symbol of the dawn.... But all that's left is a place dark and lonely A terraced house in a mean street back of town Becomes a shrine when I think of you only Just two up, two down All that's left is a place dark and lonely A terraced house - a mean street back of town Becomes a shrine when I think of you only Just two up, two down Just two up, two down Just two up, two down Just two up, two down "No milk today"....

Way back in maybe 1970, I stumbled on this 45 of Graham Gouldman's at a second hand store.. I always loved the song when done by Herman's Hermits. I'm sure at that time I was unaware it was Graham's song. But absolutely loved it. I can't get enough of these youtube videos of Graham playing all my favorites from the '60's that he wrote. What a great song writer. So glad the bands that recorded his songs, didn't butcher them! I still consider "Bus Stop" as about my favorite song ever.
