@john schneller Graham Parker wrote all his own songs. A great writer! Southside counted on outside writers including Bruce and Steve Van Zandt....He wrote very little.

So glad I found this. I moved to So Cal in '78 and the whole Punk Rock thing was really big at the time. I was a fan of Hard Rock and Progressive Rock. These guys sounded like Punk to me but they were so much more. The "Stick to Me" and "Squeezing Out Sparks" albums are awesome - played them to death. These guys should have been so much bigger. They deserved more attention.

So so good!! It’s a shame that they did not make it as big as Elvis Costello. Stick to Me was a masterpiece that no one knows about.

D I first saw G.P. & DA Rumour on a PBS program in Chgo during my sophomore year in high school. I was totally blown away!! The show was called Soundstage, came on Thurs evenings & the audio was simulcast on WXRT 93.1 FM. The late Rick Danko of the Band was also on that show. After that GP got airplay on 3 Chgo stations & Local Girls was a hit in Chicago in 1979. They played the Park West in '79 which was also broadcast on radio, performing IWant U Back by the Jackson 5 & Chain of Fools by Aretha Franklin. A nite of rock, pop , soul, punk ,new wave, r & b & pub rock. Saw him do an acoustic set at DA Metro in Chgo in DA early 2000s. Forever a fan !

That's where I discovered him also. They played "Don't Ask Me Questions". That show plus the positive press he was getting in Rolling Stone were what spurred me to go by "Howling Wind" and several more albums after that one.

I saw them on this tour. Fantastic....my freind had his 35mm camera and Graham's publicist let him back in the dressing room to take pics. This was at Brother's Music Hall at the old Hollywood Country Club in Homewood (B'ham) Alabama.. Funny story....the publicist gave my friend her card and wanted the pic negatives sent to her but there was only one problem, he forgot to load his film properly and not a frame was to be had. Oh, and the encore for the evening was "I Want You Back".

Actually the tour with Southside Johnny/ Asbury Jukes as opening act was March of 1977. Saw them twice in Bristol(March 8) and Birmingham( March 24). Amazing double bill for just 2 quid. Those were the days.

I was there. Robert Palmer was the headliner, GP was the opening act followed by Southside. I don't recall GP playing for an hour though. I believe that show was in December 1976 according to a NYT review online. Both artists blew away Palmer that night with the crowd gravitating to Southside.

No way it's from 1979. The horn section was earlier and they would have been playing stuff from "Squeezing out Sparks" ('78) and "Another Grey Area" ('79). Seems similar to "The Parkerilla" in content, which was recorded on the "Stick to Me" tour in '77. But this actually sounds a hell of a lot better to me. Great stuff!

It could be but I saw GP 2x in 1 weekend in late 1977 in NYC at the Palladium opening for Thin Lizzy and then at the Bottom Line at midnight....maybe the best show I ever saw. Drank with him at the bar with my buddy Barry pre-show. Just obliterated the Line that night/morning..dancing on tables, rocking our asses off. Last saw him in Philly 2014 and NYC on the 3rd or 4th stops on this most recent tour.

***** I bet they did play some of the songs off that album, but there are no songs from Squeezing Out Sparks, which came out in early 1979, on this set list. That's why I think it is really a 1977 concert. Not that it really matters. It's a quality set of music. Thanks for posting it.
