Graham Verchere and Grace VanderWaal sing Big Star's 'Thirteen', Observatory, Santa Ana, 2019-08-25

The two leading stars of the upcoming Disney flick Stargirl were on promo-tour for Disney's D23 convention. So it was a natural for Grace to invite Graham as a supporting guest to her show at The Observatory in Santa Ana. They sang a duet of the "kinda main song" (grace's words) of the film, "Thirteen", by Big Star. (I can't watch that without getting emotional...)
The movie material is Fredee Ziffel's. As his audio was quite distorted when the crowd got excited (nothing like a crowd of young girls to overload a mike...), I asked him if he would be okay with me replacing that. He agreed, and after slapping on Roger Salzillo's audio and some video cropping this here video resulted. Links to the source videos at the bottom of the description, give them a view! If you like a meaty bass, Fredee's video is definitely also worth listening to.

The most special part of watching this was seeing how special it was for Grace. She was SO full of joy seeing her friend sing, feeling the duet come to life.

I try to imagine where Grace will be in 5 years...10 years...but I can't. My imagination won't register that high. We will just have to wait and see. By the way, thanks for posting.

I watched that video of him while he was in Vancouver doing a musical play with a local troupe and he's very humble. I do believe he said the singing parts isn't his strong suite and he admires the people in the play who are good musically

Actually I thought he was pretty good. Wish he would hook up with Grace; her last bf seemed like a bit of a jerk, based on the latest lyrics to her songs.

Awww Graham is so out of his comfort zone right now. Even tho he messed up at that one bit, he was still so good and Grace hyping him up was so sweet 🥺

It was actually Grace messing up, she skipped a line. Graham, being all Gentleman, went along with it.

I wasn't. The recording is Freddie's (who is basically around every time something significant happens on a Grace set; it's his superpower.) I layered a different audio track on (from Roger Salzillo's FB live), because Freddie was among a bunch of screaming teenagers, which made his sound distort in some sections. In the sections that are not so loud, Freddie's sound is better. By all means look at his video as well; it's linked in the first end screen. Roger's video is the second.

I wondered about Grace's soft voice when she performed it at D23. I can now imagine that she toned it down so as to better match Graham. I do hope they sing it as a true duet for the film. Here she gave him full priority.

Graham is not a good singer but ok and he was extremely nervous because he can't do it and people stop saying them adorable Grace is a lot more better and famous then Graham and he does not deserve her at all!!!!!!!

Excuse me? Graham is an actor and musician. he’s been in the industry for years and he’s still honing his abilities. he’s not a stage performer like Grace and was clearly very nervous to sing in front of her and her fans. They are great friends, and they’ve been friends for nearly two years now. How can he not deserve someone who works hard like he does? And why would you say something that makes it sound like they’re dating in the first place? They’re both kids in the industry making names for themselves, and they’re not together like that. If you’re going to insult people out of jealousy then leave. This is a place for fans to enjoy themselves and enjoy Grace.
