He has been my favorite living drummer for decades. I rank him right up there with Joe Morello, Papa Jo Jones and many, many others. A true musician who makes me FEEL the music. I've been a jazz drummer since the early 70's and this is my favorite style of all music. Thank you!

Just found Graham Dechter (on KZfaq) today. Excellent. Nice job landing this rhythm section too! (I grew up with Jeff H in Richmond and remember him aceing the drums contest in elementary school with perfect rhythm).

Thoroughly enjoyable rendition of a nicely swinging standard. That these four play so well together is a tribute to their individual talents, and any one of them could claim leadership of an identical quartet- this time Graham Dechter deserved and earned his opportunity. Follow them all on Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra clips.

When all is said and done, young Graham Dechter is already one of the greatest of jazz guitarists. The expressions on the faces of Hamilton and Clayton as he solos signify it best. I THINK I hear some influences in Dechter's playing from other guitar greats--Montgomery, Green, Kessel for certain--but Dechter's talent and completeness as a jazz player make him stand out stylistically and musically on his own. He's uniquely inspired. He comes along beyond the Golden post-Parker years which sadly are tailing off in this century (hopefully only temporarily), and if this essential music is to prevail in our day and beyond, we must have such jazz prodigies as Dechter. Phil Hamilton is a wonderful drummer and Clayton and Handelman would sound great in any era. A vital group!

Don't everybody clap at once. Great performance to say the least, and was probably an American audience. It probably didn't meet with their approval because the guitar player didn't "shred" any riffs like a heavy metal guitar player does. Give me a break. Those of us on the net who know talent think you deserve a better audience. You've got the touch. Keep up the good work. Don't let a group like these deadheads in the audience get you down.

I think it was a studio audience, probably only 10 people. I think they were recording too -- maybe a bit intimidated by being there -- or just not enough alcohol :)

Mature audiences clap politely, and generally at the end. No shortage of jazz aficionados in the US. Jazz was born here.

Dechter doesn't take a single break in his solo! It may sound like he's playing good notes, but to me it's a sign of maturity when you don't play constantly through the entire tune.

For those of you who DONT feel qualified to express an opinion of this performance, just watch the faces of the players for their appreciation of what is played by the wonderful guitarist. He proves that, even though he has great ability,it is his statements and choice of notes that makes him great. The whole group swings mightily, even at this leasurely tempo. An exercise in good taste! And I am pretty sure that I would play better if I were with these guys!
