Zach Johnson, the “Millennial Farmer” is a 5th-generation farmer who’s spent his life growing, working, and learning on his family’s farm. His wit and dry sense of humor appeal to children and adults alike. A product of the millennial generation, his appreciation of new technology blends with his old-fashioned work ethic, and he offers a unique ability to deliver his message in a way that resonates with lifelong farmers as well as those with no knowledge of agriculture.
With growing consumer awareness about where their food comes from, Zach has identified the need for an independent voice from the front lines of agriculture. Zach actively promotes agriculture by sharing his day-to-day experiences in the agriculture world while providing farmer-to-farmer education to help facilitate a collaborative conversation between farmers and the public.

Farming has surly changed since I was a youngster on a farm back in Pennsylvania in the early 1940s . We used a team of horses to farm. I am happy for you that you have all the modern equipment to farm with. You can sure get more done in a day than we could. We would plow a single furrow behind the team, and be fortunate to get a few acres done in a day. When I was six years old it was my chore to milk the cow by hand as well as slopping the hogs Etc. prior to going to school each day, then repeating the same when i got back home. Each of us in the family had our daily chores to attend to. During the summer we raised most all of our food in a large garden. Mom would can so we would have it through the winter. I would churn the butter each Saturday morning, and what wasn't required for our use, Mom would trade along with the excess eggs, to the grocer in town for flour, sugar, and yeast Etc. or sell for cash, to buy through through Sears catalogue our school cloths and a Christmas gift each year. Of course we had things a lot better than those living in town since WW2 was going on. Every thing was rationed, and hard to come by. For some reason that I am not sure of ,we didn't realize how difficult things were. I suppose it was because it was the normal way of things at the time, as we all were is the same condition. Now I am in my eighties and wonder about the youth of today. I see the family farms are disappearing. What impact will this have for the future of the country? Big business and Government seem to be taking over, and in my opinion ruin more than they produce. I suppose since youth has never experienced what those who have gone before them have. They can't really understand what it cost those before them, so that they can have the rich benefits they have today. I suppose my generation was of the same as those of today concerning that matter. Please forgive an old man for rambling on such. I got carried away with thoughts of my past. I pray that God will provide all of your needs and most of your wants.

You guys have an interesting way of going around the edge of the field. We always take the next set of rows in, not the outside edge. When the combine is almost completely full then I backup go over another set of rows and shell up to the point the cart has enough room to sit so I can unload. After unloading into the cart which is in the little nook I shelled out for him I continue on my way shelling around the field until I have to unload again. Depending on field size and if the cart can hold it along with the combine or not I will cut a path back to the trucks so the cart can unload and I can as well into the hoppers. I can go in either direction because of the way I lay the field out.

I hung an auger on a tree limb last month on my friends grain cart. Fortunately it was an older cart and it didn’t mess up the auger flights but I had to replace a section of the end half of the auger casing where it wadded up.
