This week's guest worked his way from unpaid intern to Grammy Winning Multiplatinum Engineer. Please welcome to The Place, David "Yungin" Kim!
BIO:
Originally from Seoul, Korea, David Kim quickly learned that the standard route of attending a four-year college and climbing the corporate ladder in a cubicle wasn’t for him. He decided to cultivate his passion for the technical side of music at Musicians Institute, graduating with a certificate in audio engineering at the top of his class in 2010 and subsequently landing an internship at Chalice Recording Studios, one of the top recording studios in Los Angeles. Over the next few years, he tirelessly worked his way up from unpaid intern to head engineer.
David was later presented with the opportunity to engineer full-time for Hit-Boy, an American producer, rapper, and songwriter best known for producing smash hits such as “N***as In Paris” by Jay-Z and Kanye West, “Goldie” by A$AP Rocky, “Trophies” by Drake,” and “Clique” by Kanye West, Jay-Z & Big Sean.
Since then, David has transitioned into a part-time gig with Hit-Boy in order to dedicate more of his time to freelancing. He’s worked with notable artists such as Kendrick Lamar, Travis Scott, Ariana Grande, DJ Khaled, Mary J. Blige, and Future, among others. Some highlights of his career up to this point include winning a GRAMMY for working on Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp A Butterfly as well as recording and mixing Nipsey Hussle’s last song, “Racks In The Middle.” He has worked with artists across multiple genres of music, and his passion for audio engineering has taken him to studios all over the world.

8:35 You can get the Valhalla Space Modulator for 'Freeish' that is if you buy something else and answer a questionnaire. I know because I recently bought ValhallaDelay - and did the survey, one of the questions was 'where did you hear about our products?' I answered that many guests have mentioned them in Batter's Box on Pensado's Place! :D

@@AllUpInTheMix I just dont understand how you can come to that conclusion I guess unless you dont know about Dre like that. Ali is just the new Dre only he has less of a track record. got no problem with ali being up there but not before Dre. ay tha is for commenting though cause I couldnt find your channel I was looking for it 🤘🏻

Jeff Trinkle no prob bro. Dont get me wrong i listened to a lot of Dre growing up but i just replied with who has helped sculpt my sound AFTER i started engineering. So not my Mount Rushmore per se.

Hay music artists, did you know that video game engines, just may be the Future of music album playback, software can greatly increase the customer end user experience, if a music album can be adapted to run on a gaming console or PC gaming standard. in the mode of game engine software, non linear playback! the music artist can potentially in the future? with the help of software engineers & music/video producers ? can potentially take any of today's video game engine's PC, XBOX .Playstation and make it an interactive multitrack immersive music album experience, even take panoramic 8k or 4k resolution live concert video, and potentially by software engineering make it an interactive music album experience. the good news is that no new hardware is needed by the customer for this interactive playback. as any interactive mulitrack music album can potentially play like any other video game. using the joypad as an end user mixer control. most traditional standard music albums are a collection of fixed linear audio recordings on 2 channel tracks and any music video on a disc is also a linear play-back standard. however game engine's are multi-track and immersive or non-linear "can pan or zoom-in"so if live 8k or 4k high resolution video is re-digitized, potentially any games console is a panoramic video playback device. even if the customer end user has the most basic 1080p television set or television receiver with only 2 channel stereo basic home theatre setup. all the hard work is in any software engineering that makes-up the artist's album. IMO. this has nothing to do with me or my channel . is just a cool idea.
