A few things to note about this challenge: - There is no neutral gear. - Gear choice on downhills didn't seem to change fuel consumption or speed attained. - You can cut corners if you want but that's only really worth doing on the final chicane. - Weaving doesn't add to the distance travelled. 1 lap is 3.33 miles always. - The boys and girls back at the gravity factory have done an amazing job this year with their physics package.

6.97 miles here. Two things that people should keep in mind: -sometimes when going in final gear the engine will stall thus engaging the auto clutch and revving up a bit and wasting valuable fuel. it's important to detect and avoid that (especially true in the nurburgring challenge with the veyron later) -don't rev up at the beginning, it wastes 0.1/0.2% of your total fuel. It could make a difference :P

But our bikes were slightly upgraded and powerful so we only get around 110 miles per tank, so we would ride up the mountains and then turn off the bikes and coast neutral in the downhill areas and we juuuust made it to the next gas station doing it hahahaha

This mission is actually fun in a weird way, I really enjoyed it. Put on hazard lights (to make the game more authentic and simulate a real life car breakdown etc.), hold the trigger very gentle and roll on 20km/h speed, use fuel map 6. I stared at the graphics, watched my car in and out, stared at the details and focused on going as far as possible. I went for ~7kms, my time was around half an hour if not more. The Bugatti fuel eco mission is fun, too. I basically barely drove the car, just steered it and sometimes pressed the throttle, I released the handbrake at the mission start, and the car rolled by itself.

@@haroldmccarty1333I always rep "better safe than sorry", but my brother has done that for decades and only ran out a single time. His summer car is a 91 CRX, so he definitely notices the benefits.

There are definatly ways to improve on this final time. Specificly on the hill that was the big problem. The key is to pass over that hill with as little speed as possable before gravity starts to increase your speed again. On the first lap u got down to 9mph so u were going 8mph faster then needed and on the 2nd lap 14mph = 13mph faster then needed. while it would be very hard to get that accurate but the closer to that 1 mph u get over that hill the more fuel u have to push at the end.
@JG54206
@JG54206 Жыл бұрын
Theoretically, yes. In practice, no. To go 1mph would require him to downshift which would mean less speed for any given amount of RPM. You will want to stay in the highest gear possible using as little throttle as possible.

@@fishzara ideally, yes, but usually when you’re in the highest gear you’re highway driving and have to maintain speed, I would say just try to keep your RPM’s as consistent as possible. Gently let off the gas when going down hills, and get back on the gas before you start to slow down at the bottom, etc. Highway driving is MUCH more efficient than city driving, because it uses less fuel to maintain a moving vehicle than to keep accelerating 2 tons from slow speeds. Another tip, keep your distance from cars ahead, (especially on highways) so if they slow down a lot or even hit the brakes, you’ll have a second or two where you can just coast to slow down, 9 times out of 10 they immediately speed back up. I Hate driving with people who tailgate and have to keep slamming their brakes/mashing the gas to follow traffic

It would be cool to do be able to do this challenge in any car including upgrades like seeing how much weight reduction makes a difference. You can also watch the fuel gauge go down in Forza 7 and run out if you don't pit to refuel.

Great challenge and well done. If we had train travel where the main distance is covered at the lowest possible altitude and the stations are at similar but higher altitude (say tops of urban hills and high rises), travel would be halla fast and the energy costs minimal. Effectively, you'd only be spending energy to be dragged up the finish hill for the amount of kinetic energy lost in the coast off the departure station. You'd want super slick aero like Japanese maglev trains, and, shocker: lots of ballast, I think. A light train would slow down from air drag a lot fast. Up to 5x faster conservatively. Longer distance, deeper tunnel, higher top speed.\ Imagine going between metropoles and only getting the motors to be engaged when you're already on the final approach of the destination, say a could dozen or a hundred vertical meters to climb only. Yes, on a heavier trains that's more energy draining per vertical meters, but a light train might not even make it to that hill without drive power to the wheels or maglev system. A theoretical evacuated train tube would be a game changer but also super difficult to accomplish. LIght trains would be back in play then, top speed would be the same between light and heavy trains and decelleration minimum.

A good tip for this is to drive on higher gears whenever possible. The less work the engine does, the less fuel is spent. Coasting is a good idea too, especially in downhill segments. There is another mission like this, this time in a Bugatti Veyron, which iirc has even worse gas mileage. In that case, stick to 7th gear no matter what, and coast much more often, keeping the speed up to around 60-70 mph (or about 100 km/h).

Would accelerating through the pitlane on the 2nd lap allow you to get more speed considering it's a straight through and by then you have nearly 0 fuel. Meaning you will roll further along the last part of the track. You seem to lose about 5-10kms going through the final corners before the finish line.

I do this irl (I coast about 8+ miles of a 22 mile round trip commute to work) and what I found is that taking a racing line like you do is actually not the best way to do it. It might be faster time wise but the name of this game is exit velocity coming out of a corner. The less you turn the steering wheel the better. Even though a racing line is more of a straight line, the turn in towards the apex costs speed. The exception to this is probably a shicane where you can cut the corners almost entirely but those don't exist irl.

Then all the time in 6th at full throttle for the flat and uphill and coasting on the rest. Only going down to second when I got under 30kmh on uphills and then to sixth as soon as I could And then at the end just before the fuel ends hold the clutch so it keeps rolling

idk if this will pan out in a road context (since earth has air resistance) but orbital mechanics would suggest to try timing your burns whenever the force gravity is accelerating the hardest. its called the Oberth effect and if im understanding it correctly, it might- MIGHT- mean you could do the most efficient work converting fuel into kinetic energy pressing the gas pedal whenever track dives more steeply downhill.

Hi, just a question: Are "London" and "Eiger Nordwand" in GT7? As I used to hot lap the hell out of them in GT6. I was there in the top 10 with different cars but then learned: the top 5 used some kind of a clutch glitch on fanatec (I just used Logitech) to get that 1/100ms faster.

I have done this challenge there is a neutral gear you just can't find it on a regular controller if you would use the thrustmaster gear shift and steering wheel and pedal setup for this game you will be able to have a neutral and it is a lot easier to get up and over the hills with a neutral because neutral helps you Coast better

Theoretically the lowest pumping losses would be at wide open throttle and in the highest gear so as not to use an excessive amount of torque to accelerate. Only use as much power as absolutely necessary to go over hills, ideally you'd be shifting into neutral at the top and just barely inch over and allow the vehicle to coast. The racing line is still valid at least if there is potential for tire slip, it will scrub momentum. One could even go as far as to align the vehicle with zero toe, maximum camber, lowest caster, and of course maximum tire pressure for the lowest rolling resistance.
@ifixem9585
@ifixem9585 2 жыл бұрын
I agree on everything except the neutral thing...putting it in neutral on FI engines doesn't save gas when coasting, leaving it in gear shuts fuel off completely as the drivetrain is keeping the engine running, not the fuel. In neutral, there's nothing keeping the engine running, so it uses fuel to keep it idling 🙃

I think that going towards ithe inside of the curve at the bottom of the hill made you loose a lot of energy before climbing the hill, If you stay to the outside you are on more of a level with the hill and would use less energy to climb back up. Using the very bottom of each gear, with just enough throttle to accelerate will save a lot of fuel. Use the highest gear possible when going down the hill since there is no neutral.

What I find hilarious about this is I did this same challenge but there one where you do it in the Bugatti veyron on Nürburgring. And this game mode shows you just how badly some of these vehicles just sip guzzle gas. My mom's 94 GMC Sierra was bad but the raptor is so much worse. I took that Sierra 6 miles on a quarter of a tank. And no going off track does not give you a penalty going off the road has helped me get further but I turned traction control off at the line to just roll.

On GT's model, if you're in a gear that is too high for the speed you're going, the car will spend additional fuel, which is why you see that blip of throttle at low speeds in higher gears. At any given speed, you should be in the highest gear possible that doesn't trigger that idle fuel usage because it doesn't translate into forward motion. On downhills, gear choice absolutely does matter. Higher gears will allow you to gain more speed, but too high and you'll trigger this idle fuel usage.
