7:52 to jump to the complete performance of Granados Valses Poéticos by Cole Anderson
Welcome! I am very happy to be starting this series. With most avenues for live performance closed at the moment, this seems like a nice way to share my music with all you piano/music lovers out there. Uploads will be every Friday and each upload will feature a new masterwork from the piano repertoire.
Each video begins with a short lecture, followed by a complete performance accompanied by the score. In the upper left-hand corner above the score there is a general formal outline, and I get a little more specific in the upper right-hand corner. The overhead view makes it easy to find useful fingerings for those of you who are working on the piece.
Please like, subscribe, and leave a comment-positive or not, it doesn't matter! I love to hear from all of you.
If you enjoy my content, please also consider making a monthly donation to support this project at the link below. It can be as low as $1, and any amount will help me to keep producing this content.

I have just decided to watch your videos in chronological order (instead of wondering which one I choose next)! I know now it is 2023, but I would like to say congratulations back in time for staring this great channel🎉

Thank you Sumiko! Well, I have to say the quality seems quite a bit lower to me in these older videos. It is kind of shocking to see them again. Actually there is still plenty of room for improvement now!

The 1913 welte recording of Granados himself playing this is very revealing especially the “added” parts and certain lack of repeats. His tempos were crazy impossible at times as well.

As a newcomer to your channel I congratulate your for your wonderful videos! Keep them coming 😊 I have played this piece quite a lot myself. I have to say the expansion in the coda was absolutely on point, I always think of Granados as an improviser of sorts so I'm sure he would've approved. I would be very wary though of this edition, albeit probably the only one. For instance in Walz 7 there are lots of D # missing in my opinion. Also, if you listen closely to Alicia de Larrocha's rendition you'll find many more added basses and other notes that add to the performance, mainly due to a poorly revised edition. I specially love this collection of waltzes because it conveys the true nationality of Granados, always linked to the Spanish repertoire he is so famous for, but born and raised in Catalonia, a very different part of Spain, much more close to French and Mediterranean music. In this regard, let me humbly point out, if I may, that the Introduction and also the fast bit before the theme appears again could be much more poetic and less étude-like. At least this is how I was taught to approach this pieces by the likes of A. de Larrocha and Miquel Farré, both excellent Catalan pianists. Keep up your excellent work and thank you so much kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bLqHrLZlsbnSpps.htmlsi=QYXR2NzwhkRzBTLA

My listening to Granados is limited to just the captivating "Andaluza". I would've never thought of him as a composer of this piece if I heard it - before now. There is so much influence of the other 3 great composers, except for Introduction (which imagine as a crowd gathering and chatting in a ballroom before the dances begin) and Coda. Nevertheless, this music is delightful and your performance is fantastic! Thank you for the brilliant analysis. Your expansions in the Coda are absolutely natural!

Thank you! That is a good way to imagine the introduction... It's true, the Granados style that we know from the spanish dances or Goyescas is a little muted here-but I think the charm and the pure unaffected loveliness of the music makes up for it. Thanks for watching!

I hope you’ll look at the Goyescas some time. I spent 3 months doing amateur battle with the Lady and the Nightingale. I was able to listen without too much pain to the recording I made! Such elastic music. G’s own performance of Goyesca no 4 is very strange !
