I hope I am mistaken that I did not see it? With respect I ask, do we not carry the American Flag in during grand entry or sing the national anthem anymore? Or is that offensive to too many? At this time in history, all of us have lost elders and veterans that fought for our country and freedom. Remember the Code Talkers and our Grandfathers and blood relatives that have died. We are not just white, we are not only red, and we are not the color blue. We are all Red, White and Blue. It is good to remember the past with honor and respect so each of us learns from it, but it is also good to "release" the negativity of grudges and hate by "forgiving" so that we can all move forward without storing up that wrath inside us, or how else are we going to evolve tp maturity spiritually. I hope that this new generation can understand. My Elder Nate', was the last survivor with only 4 others, out of 200 hundred that were killed after being dropped into fight in the Korean war. It was an airdrop to take out 1 enemy general. Our soldiers where parachuting and the cold winter winds froze everything. The winds blew them over the Chinese border, most were shot before they landed by the Chinese, the few that survived were only because the weapons of some of the Chinese had frozen. Nate' is now the last one living out of the other 199 of all of them all. The other 4 have now died of old age or related things. It suffers him greatly as of why he is the last. He is also one of the last to speak our language almost lost, and so he has been asked to write a book. I am no longer able to dance the southern Straight dance or participate in ceremonies since 2006, I myself am disabled, and a veteran of law enforcement. For my elder Nate' to walk into a young man's room somewhere on NDN land, like I have, and see the American Flag hanging upside down like I have, I cannot express that feeling he would feel as much as it was disturbing to me. Most my family is military or retired and served this country. I cannot think of the tears he would have from the effect of seeing that, as I was not there in Korea seeing my brothers, some red, some white, some black. Color did not matter to them. They were all murdered and picked off in the air defenseless, but the least I can do is respect our symbol that because of our blood shed is sacred. It represents us, all of us as "The Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave". That is all of us now, simply because we all have family that bled the same color blood, it only comes in red! I sincerely hope I have not offended anyone and it fills me with a chills to the depth of my soul when I hear the power of the drum causing me to forget about my inability to dance anymore. How it bothers me that my beadwork and clothes hangs in the closet and my feathers in my cedar boxes. But the best part, that feels me with joy, is to see everyone of you dance, especially the young ones of this new generation! Do not forget about your elders, and those things that are sacred and sentimental that we want to keep, a folded flag of a lost veteran, is worth carrying with us into our ceremonies as a precious reminder of who we have lost because in reality we are blessed to live in the home of the free, because of the brave.
