Seth Lugo took the mound in L.A. looking to continue his great start to the season and turned in another quality start, striking out 4 over 6.0 innings and allowing just a pair of runs. Nick Loftin got the Royals on the board first with an RBI ground out but the Royals entered the 6th inning trailing by a run. With the bases loaded, MJ Melendez stepped in ready to battle, working a 12-pitch at-bat and coming away victorious with his first career grand slam to put the Royals ahead. Bobby Witt Jr. and Nelson Velázquez would add on RBIs of their own and the bullpen shut everything down as John Schreiber, Sam Long, and Nick Anderson tossed a combined 3.0 shutout innings to preserve the lead and pull the series vs. the Dodgers even.

Much needed win against one of the powerhouse teams in MLB. It's a very tough week when you have to face the Yankees and Dodgers back to back but hope we can use this win to keep up the fight.

A win on Sunday would be massive. June is almost over, so if we can past these 1st place teams not dropping too many games we will be good.

If you look at our next ten games and the guards next ten we could still be very much in the division race at the end of this month

KC has played four 1st place teams in the last two weeks (Cleveland, Seattle, NYY, and LAD) and are somehow 5-6 with a chance to go .500 against them. They seem legit.

@@EricSundquistKC 2003 was 21 years ago so the last win was 21 years ago, but we last played a game at dodger Stadium in 2017 and if it wasn’t for Covid, we would’ve played the Dodgers in 2020 (but probably in Kansas City?) but since they started the new way of playing in inter-league play, we now play the Dodgers every year.

I think that was our first sonic slam (grand slam sixth inning grand slam) that is, since I think Abraham Almonte? can somebody from the Royals confirm that?
