Johnny has really managed to raise the bar with this tournament. This is everything Psyonix should be doing. He made the actual rank system in Rocket League mean something. It's not about your name, connections, proving yourself to the right people etc. You climb that leaderboard, and you get your shot. Well done.

GGS, a rare match where I had no favorite to win. Excellent game, though neither player seemed to be "at their best", but very high up there still. -- Some okhalid observations When people talk about okhalid they like to talk about his grounded offensive plays; the bounce shot and the forced "50" combo. But I'd like to point out that Okhalid is more importantly a master of possession and loss aversion. Every okhalid attack leaves okhalid with a) a goal, b) a way to attack again or c) a way to reclaim possession. This cannot be said for most other players, even at the top. When okhalid starts his bounce drible, the goal isn't the most amazing thing about the play. Remember that every situation where okhalid scores a bounce drible, he has boost, possession and the opponent at a distance. Recognise these three advantages? It's essentially the situation where a pro player is SUPPOSED to score. That shot should go in almost every time, whoever you are, whether it's a flick, a bounce drible, a 50, a ceiling shot or whatever it is - or chain into another attack. So okhalid choosing one way to score here (e.g. bounce drible or 50s) and being good at it, isn't his secret or the most amazing thing about him. However okhalid gets those opportunites very often. More importantly, untill he gets them, he plays completely safe. He makes simple attacks, simple threats, and the clock ticks, but he's patiently waiting. He plays possession to perfection, and if he doesn't have it, he plays loss aversion to perfection. You'll see the ball making it's way back and forth, all the way back to okhalid's goal, but he is often in a superior position no matter where the ball is. It will seem like the opponent has a chance and that the game is going back and forth but really okhalid is weaing out his opponent, waiting for the three advantages to appear (as mentioned above). This means tight goal keeping of course, but more than that, perhaps more important, is constant pressure on the opponent while maintaining enough boost to counter-attack. Also, Okhalid rarely jumps and outplays himself like so many "speedy" players does. Yet he jumps and gets excellent 50s when he needs to. This is loss aversion. At times, you'll see okhalid lose 50s on purpose, even faking 50s and letting the opponent hit the ball because he knows he will catch up to it sooner. This is perhaps one of the least talked about traits of Okhalid. He also literally gives away the ball to low boost opponents by not challenging them, essentially baiting them into overextending later. Okhalid is fine with not touching the ball. He is not chasing the ball. At midfield, Okhalid will very often start an attack, but notice the opponent preparing to stop it, and then cancel the attack. I see a lot of top players trying this, but struggling to make the follow-up attack deadly. However, okhalid doesn't go for deadly. He takes a safe shot, often to be saved, but he still wins possession. And then another safe shot. Rarely, almost never over-extending. Basically, this is the most amazing thing; he chains attacks in an incredibly SAFE manner, scoring either from misplays, his outplays, or ultimately from the boost-starvation of his enemy. This is the famous "the long game". Okhalid is never "all-in", he is "always in", from start to zero on the clock in game seven.

There was no better finale that could have happened which would have generated a higher skill level. After this insane win, Joreuz may be the best 1s player on the planet, despite this being an incredibly close series. He was able to not only beat, but dominate AztraL in a battle of mechanics and he was able to beat KhaliD in a match of brains and intellect. He truly can do it all. i dont disagree at all your pov is fair. I still put khalid as a better 1v1 player for the world. like if joreuz 1v1ed 100 people as well as khalid, joreuz would lose like 5 and khalid 1, if they dont 1v1 eachother. Just Khalid is so complete and solid fundamentally hes just a better matchup for anyone else besides unpredictable players. such as joreuz(mechanics making him hard to read) and fairy (fairy being clinical in all his plays).i would put joreuz as #2 in world rn and khalid #1 in the world but joreuz has matchup over khalid for sure. but if joreuz can upgrade that mentality game to the level of fairy or khalid he would not be losing matches he should have. coming from a joreuz and khalid fan!

And even if Joreuz beat him by a large margin, Joreuz isn't nearly as consisent as Khalid. That right there was the only match Khalid has ever lost in the Salt Mine, while Joreuz got reverse swept by ApparentlyJack in Jack's first big tournament. WeTheHybrid The players which I've noticed to do considerably well against Khalid in showmatches are eekso in the first saltmine and Joreuz whenever. They both are mechanical geniuses who also use their brain in pretty supreme coordination with their mechanics, so they can accomplish anything on the fly, rather with Khalid he plans his shors more. Even though eekso has never officially beaten Khalid in a showmatch, he's gone to game 5 with him every time.

@@x7p7p I didn't say he doesn't have consistency at all, I said he won't be as consistent as oKhaliD. If you look at the results of each match you will see that oKhaliD most of the time is close to those who beats him in rounds and in series. And Rankings is also a proof of consistency. In the semi-final, Jack played like it was a grand final which revealed that getting bumped is a weakness of oKhaliD while AztraL didn't take it srsly changing cars and what not ( imo Jack is better than AztraL in 1s ).
