That was The Benny Hill theme song! Only 2 bands sold out Shea Stadium in NY. 1st was The Beatles and next was Grand Funk, but GFR did it 3 weeks faster than The Beatles did! Their fans were hopping all over the bleachers and there was serious concern they would collapse, so they called in engineers to see. This is also a great band to watch live.

If you want to be surprised by a 70's rock group, try Uriah Heep. Less known today, despite some members still touring, but huge in the 70's. They only had a couple of chart hits "Stealin' and "Easy Livin", but they were massive on FM Stations with a variety of unusual songs. They had lead singers, but other band members routinely sang and they harmonized. Also try "The Wizard", "July Morning", "Look at Yourself", "Lady in Black" or "Bird of Prey",

I don't know what notes you guys are reading but this is actually the drummer Don Brewer who sings this song plus many other great songs by them. Mark Farner the guitarist has a higher pitched voice and the essentially split the lead vocal duties 50/50 between themselves. Both are great singers with distinct and different voices that blend very well together and also rock-out on their own. 🤘🏻 Anyways, you *DEFINITELY* need to go down the Grand Funk Railroad rabbit hole. They have so many great songs: The 10-minute epic "I'm Your Captain/Closer To Home," their great cover of The Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter," "Walk Like A Man," "Footstompin' Music," their great cover of Little Eva's "The Locomotion" and "Some Kind Of Wonderful" which was a rare example of Don and Mark sharing lead vocals within the same song. I'm telling you guys, you are going to *love* Grand Funk Railroad when you're done checking them out. They are truly a great American band.

Being a songwriter, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist myself, one of the most interesting things to me about this song is that the drummer is singing the lead vocals and playing the drums at the same time. There is a studio video and also a live video of this song and he is playing and singing in both of them. The drummer is Don Brewer. Both him and the lead guitar player wrote this song. Most of the songs for the band are sung by the lead guitar player (Mark Farner) but Don is singing this one. I think he is one of the best singing drummers because you don't see many drummers who can do all those drum rolls while they're singing at the same time. It's bad enough trying to hold down a good study drum beat and still sing lead vocals, but when you can also do all the drum rolls and still sing lead like he's doing here, that's crazy!

Glad you guys liked this song. Freddie King is my all time favorite blues guitarist. Y'all should def check him out. He was a contemporary and an influence of Eric Clapton. He was a blues player that had some crossover success with the rock crowd. He was notorious for playing poker with his band and talking back most or all of the money he'd just paid them. Don Brewer the drummer took lead on this song. He's still touring with Mel bass player. Mark Farner tours with his own band Mark Farner's American Band. In the beginning they were only a 3 member band. Eventually added a keyboard. They sold out Shea stadium faster than the Beatles did. They didn't do hard drugs, only smoke occasionally, they wanted to concentrate on the music, per Mark said in an interview.

If a tune you listen to today from the 70s is even halfway great it's a pretty darn good song. 💜 GFR.. But when they hold the test of time to be great all through the decades that is really spectacular. And as you know listening to music rock and roll in the 60s and 70s was something out of the ordinary. This was all very very new. And of course you're listening out of context so I think you're doing a good job for being out of context oh, and thanks for playing this song it was definitely killer! I did not go in for that lifestyle but I definitely enjoyed the music. Very strong and very loud. Haha

I bought the single in 5th grade at a yard sale across the street and I wore it out. And Yeah, within a couple short years I would be in a much more Progressive stuff like Kansas and rush and so forth but really I liked everything. Lynyrd Skynyrd is huge huge huge favorite. Check out Captain my Captain by them. If you want to be at least a little surprised although it's still totally classic rock, check out the ZZ Top song Heard It On The X, which is actually kind of autobiographical for them. It's a total banger.
