After having toured this garden at the Grand Garden Show, it is lovely to have the 'official' tour by the both of you. We were actually on the carriage with you and Aaron on Monday's visit to the Annex section of the tour:) So much beauty and history, passion and perfection... it makes me happy deep in my heart. Thank you for bringing it to everyone in this video.

First of all thank you Laura for introducing us to Jack Barnwell. From the first tour we ever saw we took an interest in his style and the passion he has for gardening. We love all types of work he does from the rock work, landscapes and plants he is a true gardening guru. Love this video, two of our biggest inspirations together and enjoying every bit of it. You look so fresh and happy, no one would guess you spent 24 hours stuck at the airport. The Grand Garden Show is amazing! We just got home last night. Michigan is beautiful and Mackinac is magical.

Love Jack Barnwell! So talented, yet humble and kind. He does an outstanding job designing these gardens and then annually changing/updating them, not to mention the maintenance! To hear him, “it’s no big deal”. 😂 Thanks so much for this video! It’s awesome to see a “young” Mackinac Island landscape, because as you mentioned, you can see the structure and plan a lot better. Annuals give you your vibrant colors. For the most part, perennials bloom for a short period of time, whereas annuals generally last an entire season. I have both. Lovely gardens, beautiful home. In my dreams.

I live in Pennsylvania and I was just on the island (I'm a native :) great lakes girl) back in July and was walking around to look at all the cottages and their gardens. I was totally thinking about Jack and the tours you do with him each year! lol Such a beautiful place and I'm so happily jealous that you are there and I'm not. Enjoy your time.

Love the Lilac Cottage Garden, more ideas for my yard. I've already made a change in my front and removed the bleeding heart and replaced them with bergenia. So the beds are now little lime and limelight hydrangeas with midnight rose coral bells and last layer back to green with the bergenia. I think I the bergenia will be sturdier since this is the north side of the house. Adding a fairy garden house among some of my rocks.

I can hardly believe this garden is so new. It is so beautiful and lush. I just wish that if you're going to name a house 'Lilac Cottage' that is would be a soft lilac color. Love when you go to Mackinac Island!

LOVE, LOVE the Lilac Cottage Gardens. I am SOOOO INSPIRED! I like how the beds are a mixture of annuals and not completely formal but at the same time the same plants are utilized in other areas making it all work together cohesively! Thanks Laura! And Jack, you and your team have created such amazing gardens, thank YOU for the tour!

Maybe next year you can sit down with him in his office and talk about inspiration and what factors shaped his "signature" gardening techniques. Whether it's all environmental or a bit aspirational moulding. ...would be lovely to see how he became such a prolific gardener.

When I hear you people and a see all the wonderful gardens I can't help but wonder what excellent doctors you'd all make because everything blends together so perfectly. I don't have a personal doctor because when I was young a dentist stuck a needle in my mouth and it came out my nose. I guess we missed a payment or something.

I didn’t care for the white stonework. I thought the water feature was sloppy looking. But I loved the color in front of the cottage. That was really beautiful! I hope you revisit this place when the plants mature.

Laura needs to do a collaboration video with Aquascape to put a pond *somewhere* on her property. If not a pond (because of Benjamin) then a pond-less waterfall. Like maybe the very corner of the west side of her property. Just throwin' that out there.

@@petraaww Oooh, or maybe where the current fountain is? She can't get that thing to work (I think because it's under the tree), so move that to the front of the house and replace the fountain with a pond-less waterfall. That would solve her gopher problem too, lol.
