@wickedmonkeylover3 жыл бұрын
Agreed. You can't just hook up a camera go to what you think looks bad and say it's the hood. You know nothing about my city, and FYI you were going through the Hispanic areas, those people work hard and police patrol there cause they don't have anything better to do. Grand rapids isn't that dangerous, I lived on every side of this damn city and that wasn't even the bad sides.

There is a difference between run down and dangerous. A lot of Detroit’s worst looking areas is not where most of the crime is. There are parts of Compton that look really nice, but are deadly. Grand Rapids is a gentrified city. It no longer has slums because there is a housing shortage...which pushed people into the inner SE side to reclaim the hood for the gentry. If you define hood by homicides, he did not drive through any of the worst hoods, like Baxter. Those hoods are being gen tried though...and do not look grimy but are where the gang banging is. Charlie is looking for grimey looking areas. You will not find that much in a Grand Rapids. Grand Rapids is going to become like Ann Arbor....where you have to be rich to live in the city.

He travels to different cities showing you a side of America that most people do not see. I give him his props. Check out his other videos. I think he focus on the more run down sections of cities.....because that is what people don’t often get to see. I used to live in Grand Rapids, as well as Detroit.....so I know the difference. The big difference is that GR hoods don’t have a jack boy culture like Detroit. If you walk around with something nice in Detroit....in the hood.....you better be prepared for someone telling you that they need that...lol. Run it. You don’t really have to worry about that in GR...but everything else go down the same.

For those who say he not from Grand Rapids, you are right. He was born and lived in Detroit. A few years ago I was watch some of his videos. To this day I generally know the major streets/avenues in west Detroit myself. I was born in Detroit and grew up in Detroit and later Livonia. The area in Detroit I grew up in was north of Grand River Avenue, east of Telegraph Road, and south of 7 Mile. We moved to Livonia to be closer to the Ford Motor Company dad worked at. When I got out of the USAF we settled down in Kentwood and later Wyoming. I know that picture on Franklin at 2:37 is Social Services building. Been to that place many times before. What you see in this video is what you DON'T have here like in Detroit. That is street after street in central Detroit of either burnout houses or cleared out burned houses. Now in my life, I don't have money to move to the Detroit area let alone a mile away. I list medical problems that can happen to anyone regardless of race. One that I have is Sarcoidosis. Bernie Mac died from Pneumonia and scar tissue from previous Sarcoidosis was a factor in his death. Another person who died from autoimmune disease was Reggie White who played last team was the Green Bay Packers. Black working men and women that are doing to support their family I give a thumbs up for you. You are persons of value. Let me tell you this, as a former Detroiter, Detroit gets a bad rap. I once believed the hype about how bad Detroit was until I started visiting and living in other big cities. Same things go on daily. Many people who talk about how bad Detroit, Flint or Saginaw is have actually never even been in those cities. How many people writing how bad Detroit and other cities are, in comparison, have been victimized by a crime while visiting one of the so called terrible cities? I think most peoples opinions come from the media. You might know that it is safe to walk or go to most parts of Grand Rapids....because you don’t see or read about such things bad happening being shown on the media or because you have gone there many times without incident. However, because of fear and what you see in the media, you would not try that in Detroit or Flint. Nothing would probably happen to you in those cities either....you are just too scared already to prove yourself wrong.. The author of this Channel, for over 5 years now, has gone into the most crime ridden cities and the worst neighborhoods in theses cities, and from what I can tell, nothing has ever happened to him. He has never been shot or robbed or jumped. Watch his videos....he gets out his car in the hoods and at night, goes into hood party stores. He should not be able to do this if all these places are as bad a people think they are. I have read comments where people ask if they could do what the author does....but as a white guy. You see....that is the real fear. Many white people fear they will be attacked for being white in a black area. If nothing happens to a white person in a poor black community, whites will say the community is “safe” and not bad. There could be African Americans getting shot in drive-bys in the same community, weekly, and all type of assault and crimes among AA.....but as long as nothing happens to white peoples....they will say it is a safe neighborhood. History has turned African Americans onto themselves, which is why AA can be catching hell others feel it is “safe”. I recommend watching “Black Bottom” on Netflix. What happened to the Character “Toledo” in the end perfectly reflects the root of violence in our communities to this day. Displaced aggression and frustration turned inwards towards each other.

I honestly understand precisely what your saying, but its not an American thing its the same repetitious cycle time and time again, history is always repeating, it has no relevance on race, but i agree that the illusion is always present, humans cant be free because were controlled by people who through their power are in fact "god" like in theory

Anybody who thinks this is bad is soft or didnt grow up in a city in the midwest or east coast... looks like a normal working class neighborhood to me. If you look up his videos on flint or Detroit. Bricks were easy to transport by the railroad, and more brick homes in Detroit than anywhere else in Michigan. Besides, a good deal of Italians lived in Detroit and were brick masons by trade same as when they lived in Italy. Many Italians moved from Italy to work at the Henry Ford Automobile Factory back in the 1918 era just after WWI at the request of Henry Ford himself.
