I’ve torture tested this watch as well. It’s been beat to hell but the ceramic bezel remains perfect.

Not a fan of quartz, but I would totally own a Grand Seiko quartz. I mean they literally grow their own crystals!

I love my 9F. I would honestly prefer it over the spring drive I own. Something about having a watch that is always spot on is very appealing to me.
@Boyahda5 ай бұрын
Thanks for this video. A GS quartz isn't just another typical quartz watch you can buy for a tenner. They even grow their own synthetic quartz crystals in-house. There's a lot more going on with them than you might initially realize.

Grand Seiko has so much innovation behind it. I am planning to buy a Rolex OP soon, but I'd rather get a Grand Seiko for the same price.

Then you should. No point getting a watch that makes you feel like it's doing you a favor by letting you buy it. I also want to own a GS one day, when I can afford it.

I think the hand assembled 9F is up there with many of the swiss mechanical movements and that no other quartz is anywhere near it.

So is this the reason Casio uses an automatic hand correction on some of their watches? I think it's called tough movement. I have a couple cheaper Casio Edifice that have a manual hand correction if the hands should become off centered.

Spending luxury money on a quartz watch makes absolutely zero sense to me.
@werdsup4 ай бұрын
Spending luxury money on a mechanical watch that drifts terribly compared to even the cheapest quartz movement epitomizes pointlessness though. This is a smart person's watch. Luxury watches can hold value, etc but at the end of the day they're just jewellery or retro nostalgia.

Why don't they get rid of most of the flip flops ? Like leave only 2 or so. They would end up with a super smooth sweep

While 7C46 is a high torque fine quartz movement specifically designed for the Marinemaster line, it is not thermocompesated, the 9F is on a whole different level.

What do I think? When I hear people like yourself talking straight, I learn something. I wear a Pulsar 100m chronograph with the second hand at the nine o'clock sub dial, bought used for thirty dollars, three years ago. It has a large second hand for the stopwatch that counts fifths of a second, plus sub dials for minutes in stopwatch mode and an alarm. I also think that a second hand is mostly useless except to show that the watch is still ticking, because sometimes when I look at the time, I think "it's been hours, my watch has failed". Then I see the tiny second hand move, and am reassured that it's not new battery time yet, just a long day.

There's plenty of quartz watches with heavy hands. This isn't that special
@ASMROW6 ай бұрын
Citizen watches do this when their eco-drive movement almost runs out of juice to notify user it's time to charge them.
@Roman-vh1rr5 ай бұрын
Dude you dont know what you talking about watches can have heavier seconds hand just battery wont last as long
@MinuteMon4 ай бұрын
Ok then what brand would make a heavier hand set to reduce battery life without solving the battery life issue
@michaellu88796 ай бұрын
This is not completely true and may have miss the biggest point. Quartz movement can move big second hand, it just needs more torque, thus requires a bigger coil assembly, and you guessed it, consumes more power. This is not an issue on modern quartz watches like casio that can get power from onboard solar panel. The problem is 9f is a *thin* movement, with some watch under 10mm, minus case and dial space, leaves little vertical space for the movement, so the coil has to be small and compact. By utilizing the double ticking trick and backslash control it prolonged battery life for quite a bit.

Why are grand Seikos owned by middle class? No wealthy people woud want a Seiko, what's wrong with Seiko?
@marc41435 ай бұрын
Don’t buy a watch based on what people thinks of you, 9 times out of 10 they won’t even notice
@wanderer11255 ай бұрын
@@marc4143 why are there no iconic person who ever desired a seiko or grand seiko? If you check a billionaire's/celebrity/artist collection, there's always a Rolex and some Patek etc but no single seiko. Is grand seiko luxury for middle class? The luxury watch community doesn't even recognize grand seiko and very few owned one. heck probably even the Japanese royal family doesn't own a Seiko and probably wears a Rolex
@marc41435 ай бұрын
@@wanderer1125 the royal family wears credor, which is a seiko. Plus GS rarely do endorsements or overall marketing outside japan. Though there are celebrities that wears them (brian may, arnold schwarzenegger, christian bale, ed harris, sigourney weaver, etc etc.
@wanderer11255 ай бұрын
@@marc4143 nah those were sponsored and only shown in movies. I bet Arnold, Brian, Christian etc do not personally own a single seiko I mean Robert Downey Jr thinks seikos are joke
@marc41435 ай бұрын
@@wanderer1125 tbh I thought you’re a troll at first but you’ve given fair points so far, props to you. Though Arnold owned the seiko prior using it in the Predator movie, so it’s his own collection. I think the people that you refer who thinks seiko is a joke is mainly because Seiko caters from top to bottom, and people of course mainly know the cheap and mass produced ones like the seiko 5s. Because of that, Seiko and its brands (GS, Credor, Orient, etc) doesn’t have the “exclusivity” that some people want. The wealthy people you refer to maybe wants to have something that not everyone has, even though something like a credor eichi ii costs 53K. Perhaps they think “why would I want to wear a 53K watch under the same brand that sells 200 eur watches?” But I personally think that’s a weird view since you shouldn’t buy something that is only good for everyone else to see. Anyways my point is seiko has a long history beating Rolex but caters for everyone with their price range. This makes it less desirable for people who want exclusivity by brand. But I suggest you go to a GS boutique and see their watches irl, it’s amazing what you get for the price they’re offering.
