GRAND SEIKO 9F Quartz! The Ideal First Luxury Watch? (SBGV215)

My experience buying a pre-owned 'grail' watch from Japan has been first class! Grand Seiko's handmade 9F Quartz movements are one of the best options around for those seeking a true luxury handcrafted watch at an affordable budget. They retail at half the price of Grand Seiko's other movements, have a 50 year service interval ( yes 50 years!!) and often have dials that are simple, timeless and classical in layout.
This model, the SBGV 215, has elegant everyday proportions that will suit a variety of wrist sizes, with a deep black gloss dial, Zaratsu polished 39mm case and slim 10mm thickness. Even better value pre-owned, you will find cherished examples at less than half their retail price.

I am the proud owner of a Grand Seiko quartz watch, and I must express my utmost satisfaction with its exceptional performance. It boasts an impressive accuracy of merely 10 seconds per year, which, remarkably, surpasses its stated specifications in real-world usage. Given its quartz nature, it is highly probable that this timepiece will endure for my entire lifetime. In my humble opinion, Grand Seiko quartz watches stand tall among the finest in the world. I appreciate your attention to this matter. Indeed, it employs a quartz movement, but it distinguishes itself from conventional quartz movements by incorporating jewels, much like an automatic movement. I extend my gratitude for your excellent video presentation on KZfaq.

Congrats on the purchase, Grand Seiko Quartz are one of my favorite watches. While I'm more of an omega guy, I do appreciate the Grand Seiko's, let's just say, there is a reason why I call Grand Seiko's "Art Watches" (because of how beautiful and simple they are). Wear it well, and take care of it, it will take care of you.

That's a beautiful watch! Simplicity and elegance is just Grand Seiko's strong game, i love their work. Also, I'm absolutely fascinated by their dedication to perfecting the technical marvel that is the Quartz movement! If i had the money, i'd own a SBGO005 tomorrow.

Great choice! Seiko is a fascinating brand, with great models and an astonishing history. I tend to say it was Seiko pushed the Swiss brands out of their comfort zone. My favorite is the SSC009P3 as my daily rocker while I plan a GS as soon as our offspring starts to earn its own money 😊

I also have a large 7.5" wrist (19 cm). I am surprised to see the 40mm looks good on your wrist. Many GS look small on me. It looks like its an old model no longer produced. I recently purchased a GS SBGX347 for my wife. Gorgeous watch and she loves it. Now I want one. I love the quartz. 9 jewels with lots of gearing internally. Quite mechanical.

That is a beautiful Grand Seiko. I've decided that a quartz 9F movement is the GS I want. I've purchased several watches directly from Japan nad you can definitely get some great deals. I managed to get a Longines 'Flagship' (MSRP $1600 USD) for $600 preowned. It arrived in the Longines box and case and it was hard to find any mark on it suggesting it was preowned (I suspect it might have been a display model). You did well with this watch and I agree the black dial does look particularly appealing.

Would love a GS, but don’t like the thought of needing to pop the back to change the battery, so I’m going with the Citizen AQ Series. Same finishing quality on a HAQ movement watch but solar, so never a battery replacement.

If you have basic knowledge in electronics you will know that the 50 years service interval is bullshit. A 50 year service interval implies the movement can go on for at least 100 years (must be able to last 2 services right) and there is no way any electronics can last that long, the electromigration alone will likely kill it within the first 50 years. I’m always impressed by how well the Japanese can fool the western world

@Bobby Wu I have plenty of Seiko and Citizen quartz watches that are, lo and behold, half a century old, and none have ever been serviced. All are in great, working order. This is not to say I disagree with you about the 9F's supposed 50-year service interval. This rumour was started based upon a misinterpretation of offhand comments made by the president of Grand Seiko USA. The lubricants alone will require normal service intervals, just like any mechanical watch.
@Aztec1050
@Aztec1050 Жыл бұрын
@@arspistorica562 quartz movements CAN last 50 years but “a service interval of 50 years” misleads people into thinking that it will last for hundreds of years or more, as the assumption is that any decent movement can last at least several services right
