This homemade cough syrup recipe is like gold to my entire family because it's easy to make, natural, and it works! Honey, olive oil and fresh lemon juice does wonders for cold and allergy symptoms. I give this homemade cough syrup to Isaac whenever I think he is about to get a cold. It knocks it right out! And being a 4 year- old BOY (aka germ city) I think having only 2 colds in his life is pretty darn good. That's one of the reason why I prefer natural remedies for sickness.
Make up a batch to have on hand. It lasts for a long time in the refrigerator. Just be sure to stir it up real good before use. I also like to warm it up in the microwave before use as well. It's much more soothing when it's warm.

I found this video because my 5 year old keeps coughing and after trying everything on the shelf nothing was working. I said let me go to KZfaq and seek out something natural for my baby, I would have never realized that the Name of the natural concoction would be Grandma Barbara’s… that was my sisters name who passed away on April 11, 2022. I am still trying to get used to living my life without my only older sister, all while trying to take care of myself. Let me rephrase that I meant I am healthy and I want to remain the healthiest I can. I’m glad I found this video and your grandma has the same name as my sister. Thank you, Barbara

I was very pleased to see this recipe. We make the same thing back home, but we don't cook it. Just mix the lemon and honey and have it like that. For stubborn coughs in adults, you can also add a clove of crushed garlic which helps.

For people using it for allergies, use LOCAL honey (organic), since all the pollens that your allergies are reacting to are in that honey. Works amazing! Great video!

So the leftover lemon rinds don't go to waste, here's what I do with them; 1. Put the lemon rinds in a jar 2. Pour some white vinegar in the jar 3. Let it sit for two weeks 4. Strain it into a spray bottle and you've got a homemade lemon based cleanser ^.^ .

Ingredients 1 1/2 cups organic raw honey 1/2 cup organic extra virgin olive oil 1-5 organic lemons juiced (the more the better) Instructions Add honey, olive oil, and lemon juice to a small pot. Stir. Heat over medium heat just until steaming, stirring. Remove from heat and let cool. Place into a jar with a lid. Keep stored in the refrigerator, and take 1 tablespoon warmed as needed. (Keeps for 3 months if refrigerated; 1.5 months if stored on the counter.)

Diva, u r a week late! I just got over bronchitis, I was coughing like crazy and OTC and prescription cough syrup did nothing. I'm all better now, but I will definitely keep this recipe in mind next time the kids or I get sick. I love that its natural, without all the junk that goes in cough syrup. Thanks for sharing!

Will have to try this Sounds like it might work for those who have problems with getting mucous coughed up. We had Honey, Lemon Juice, and Peppermint for soothing the throat when I was a Child. My mother filled a pint jar with half lemon juice and half honey. She stirred it and added a shot of whiskey and stirred again. She would give us one tablespoon of the syrup by mouth and then gave us a teacup of hot tea that she added two tablespoons of syrup to. We would sleep straight through the night.

I do this like 1. Put as much honey you want in the cup 2. Get that lemon juice,and squeeze in some while stirring 3. Give it a taste! I didn't need to cook it.

@drive1786 It works quite well and is extremely tasty. You don't have to heat up the honey, however you can also heat up some tea and add honey. Be sure to breathe in the steam, it opens the airways and makes your cough more effective.

I have a question, so i made this last night but i stirred it with a white rubber spatula, but after i stirred it for a bit the spatula started to deform and get a weird shape. I see white dots in the jar that i put it in and i think i'll just do it again with a wooden spoon

the spatula should be silicone, not rubber, to use in the pan. If its a rubber spatula, it will melt

You can get really nice, durable, plastic lids for those mason jars at Walmart. They're Walmart brand, I'm pretty sure, and they're cheap. They're so much easier to use when you're just storing stuff in the fridge and using/opening often. I have a bunch of them and toss the ring-type lids because I'm not one to can anything.

actually you can't even really taste the olive oil. Just be sure to use extra virgin olive oil and stir it up before you use it since the oil separates as it sits.

You forgot the whiskey! My aunt used to give me some homemade cough syurp when I was a little girl and it was very strong and always knocked me out, but I always felt better the next day. It wasn't until I was an adult I found out there was quite a bit of whiskey or bourbon in it!
