@@frozenfearz6984 So very true. The money spent on armaments, oligarchs skimming of funds, as well as their leader, all this would at least provide some pension to the elderly. It doesn't appear that money isn't spread to rural areas for infrastructure either.. Disgusting in 2022 that many elderly are living in abject poverty. This is what dictators do, keep the masses uninformed and poor.. 😢😪💔🇭🇲

@@Duke_of_Prunes I agree. We are spoiled beyond our wildest dreams. I was just sitting on my deck with a sectional patio furniture looking out at a beautiful forest. I have a nice patio too. Both are better than these people’s living conditions. It breaks my heart. We earned everything and nothing was given to us. These people haven’t had those freedoms. The pensions in Russia are laughable. My best friend is from Russia. Her mother has 2 masters degrees , her father is a type of specialized physicist and they had to forage for food in the forest. They shared a two room (not bedroom) with 6 people. They had a communal bathroom for four families. They saw my forest as food and I’m sitting here not thinking about a thing. My friend is an American citizen and has been for years. The thought of her, her family and now elderly parents living like that makes me sick and so sad. Her parents would be retired and living in the villages in Florida if they had been American citizens during their working years. Now they’re stuck in Russia. I worry every day. My friend and her sibling take care of them. They have joint citizenship and went back at the wrong time. I love these people dearly. They are the most kind, generous and loving people. We should all help those in need and realize we’re beyond spoiled. This could be us next year.

That is true, but you know everywhere there are elderly people who have no one to visit them or do little things for them. You can do it too, probably right on your street where you live or not too far away. My mother lived alone, with problems walking, for years with only me to tend to her and it would have been so helpful if anyone had ever visited her, even for a little while so she could have some contact with someone else than me. There is quite a bit of elder abuse in nursing homes, abandoned in their communities, and not having enough resources to live on. Poverty, homelessness, general suffering exists everywhere and other people in various nations have to realize that the US isn't the land of dreams anymore. Every country has variances in their populous which includes difficulty and sadness. I hear you though. I don't agree with the reply you got because the synonyms of similar are comparable, like, parallel, etc. If something is parallel then it is mirroring which equates to being the same. I know a woman here in Slovenia who does that. Actually a neurologist but she actually made a whole organization and they became rather well known in 10 years and they help elderly poor women most of all in a similar way like in this video. She did a project a while ago, a cook book, I worked on the project as a photographer, with recipes of these poor old women, food they make in their poor homes, and the book sold over 15.000 copies and all the money went for warm meals for these poor people. Also, supermarkets here help out and people living in poverty get pre-payed cards they can use in stores. The organization is called Humanitarček, but I don`t know if they have stuff about them in English online. Anyway, I just wanted to say that organizations like that can develop and it`s enough if there is one or two people, who really want to make a difference. I was really touched by this video I have to say.

I agree with you, but it also breaks my heart, to see so many men, women and families living in tents on the streets and in the woods, riding bikes to haul food and water. As a hiker I see more and more people destitute. A lot of them women. Not all of them are on drugs or alcohol. Some of them decent people, who are down on their luck.

You are a sensitive film maker and most of all a kind human being. Those grandmothers are of some tough stock to reach such a great age in such rough conditions! I do think that region must be very beautiful in the summer and many of those traditional houses would be lovely if repaired to a living standard. Of course no young people will want to remain there with no work or entertainment, but for the elderly, they may prefer to stay , have a spot of land for a garden and some chickens, rather than relocate to one of those massive Soviet apartment blocks! Change is hard for the elderly, and independence is is everything. Thank you for treating these dear women with such dignity. These people and places are cultural treasures that will sadly soon be extinct. I bet those grandmas have some great stories to tell of their lives and experiences that need to be preserved. I would love to hear these stories in your future videos!

@@ginakelley749 Yes probably true. I work in the national health service and fortunately when we come across such people we call a multidisciplinary team meeting where professionals discuss their plan of action including social worker, consultant, nurse, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, and community psychiatric team if the person has mental health issues. The general practitioner is also informed of the plan. We are very fortunate that we don't have to rely on charity as we have a welfare state, something I believe in passionately having worked in healthcare most of my working life. Yes sometimes we have to wait for care packages to be put in place which results in an acute bed being blocked for social reasons as no system is perfect but at least the person is safe and receiving care. Our NHS is something I love about the UK and I am very proud of my wonderful colleagues.
