Just bought a BX1880. Not delivered yet, but my use is summer mowing and light use of loader. Winter is a snow pusher. So this video helped me be even happier with my decision. For my property. Thanks gents.

My son has one, the bigger one, he used it to clear land to build his house. He loves it.

I have the 2380, if you raise your 3point hitch to the top, move the grass cut height adjuster to the top and the deck should stay up when you drop you box blade.

We love our Kubota. I've knocked down numerous things, some on purpose & some by accident lol. It worked well either way haha. 👊💪💜

Great job on this video guys! It’s very important to consider how much you’ll use anything you pay good money for. We’ve got only two acres and this would be a great size for us. My dad (next door neighbor) has a larger one and my uncle a few houses down has an even larger one. We borrow one of theirs for helping to fell and move the thin tall pines we have left on our hill. There’s no sense in us buying something large for so little land. We just move dirt and rocks a lot. I really appreciate all the information that will help us to decide what tractor to buy.

I live in east Texas, I have a 28 hp Mahindra Max 28xl with loader and backhoe. I cleared 1 acre of heavily wooded area with vines and grapevines. I dug up 12 root balls of grapevines. I have a disc, landscape rake, 5 ft bush hog, and the best item I added was a pull behind 5ft King Kutter finish mower. I didn't want to deal with a under belly mower. I tried to rent a large tractor w/backhoe to no avail. I have struggled this year with health problems. Not able to get on my tractor for past 9 months. GOD BLESS YOU!

I bought an 1880 a year ago with the 54” deck (permanently mounted). No plans for a loader or other implements. In fact I removed the 3 point attachment. I mow an acre of semi-rough terrain. In addition I move trailers with a front mounted hitch with ease. I absolutely love it.

Gentlemen, First let me say this is a very informative video - well done. Just for those who may be uninitiated, I have the BX2380, the extra height of the taller tires allows me to leave my 60 inch deck installed regardless of what's on the three point. Ground clearance is of course reduced with the deck on board but when fully in the 'up' position, it has proven not to be a problem for me. However, at 64, I'll have to agree that mower deck removal and reinstallation for servicing is a bit of a pain, but, as you point out, she's a grass cuttin' fool. Really enjoy your channel - looking forward to future episodes.

Great vid guys! My 1870 is my favorite tool on my 5 acres. Does everything I need and more. Looks like new, runs like new and never breaks. I’ve got at least 6 attachments and they all work great.

I have been through 2 1880s I love them I work ours everyday sometimes 10-16 hours a day on the farm. We clean our calf pens and our pig pens along with our feed yard and feed bunks. We use our's to push our commodities in our commodity shed plus we mow our lawn and do yard work with them. Our first 1880 left the farm with over 10,000 hrs and bald tires we worked that tractor to death our second 1880 only had 500 hrs and only reason we parted with it was because we traded for a bx25d with loader and backhoe and mower and snowblower and plow blade and a new never used tiller and bush hog. We love our little Kubotas around the farm they fit in the old tie stall barns, they do the jobs to big to do by hand but to small for the big tractors or our big skid steers. We had a few Deere 1025s and never again for the price of them they fall apart and breakdown way to much and parts are twice what kubota parts are, We have a 1025 sitting in the corner of our haybarn with no hood because they are plastic and disappeared the first year we had it the rear fenders are falling off it because Deere used cheapest paint they could and the brackets and floor pan all rotted off it and the tractor has less than a 1000 hours on it, it was pure junk and now only gets used to run a small corn roller mill and that is it. Only thing we have complained about with the kubota is the mower attachment but there is always a young kid not affraid to lay down to attach it.

Thank You I watch several channels that use the Kubota subs but have never been quite ready to hit the stores & salesmen in person. This video answered 99% of my questions especially about the backhoe attachment which I have never seen on the smaller tractors. Thank You !

Loved to hear your opinion and review of BX1880. It’s always feels like you have to defend yourself when you don’t buy the biggest model. It’s a true workhorse nonetheless. Happy for your purchase. I’m still breaking my lower back shoveling yards of dirt with a lawn tractor and tow cart here!

Very good video. I also have the 1880 and use it for everything around the property. The easiest way I found to take deck off and on is use the bucket to left tractor front end off ground. Makes sliding a lot easier. Thanks for sharing

Great description of the thought process of buying the right tractor! What many newbies do not realize is that a major limitation on what a tractor can do is it's weight. Without weight to provide traction and counter the load, more power gets you the same amount of wheelspin. The useful loader capacity is also limited by weight. A more powerful loader would let you lift the tractor farther off the ground, but it won't get a heavier load anywhere. Even stripped of the loader and backhoe, I find the BX is too large and awkward for mowing. It's big, the ROPS gives no end of trouble with trees, and it just does not maneuver well. I ended up keeping my beat up old riding mower, and hope to get a zero turn eventually. The BX mower deck does run beautifully, makes a great cut even in high gear, and is undeterred by tall grass that chokes my riding mower - so there are times I will go to the trouble of putting the deck on the BX... but most of the time I use the mower deck, I'd be as well or better off with a flail or shredder. FYI, with my BX23S, I have been able to do some loader, box blade, and backhoe work with the mower deck in the Top position. I don't do major jobs with the deck on, but it gives a fair bit of clearance, and I have not had the trouble you describe. For big jobs, I put a BXpanded belly plate in place of the mower, and it would also drag if the deck height was not set at the top position. I suspect you have a problem with the deck height controls.

Great advice Pop, on just under 1/3 acre I have no need for a Kubota. We bought a used Cub Cadet for our needs.

I have a 23S, and I can tell you it's been excellent! Between yardwork, pushing snow or even cutting the grass... really glad I bought it (yes I wanted the backhoe, hence the 23S) The 54" mower is good, is it the best deck, no... but works. I adjust the dial and set it to the highest position for dirt work. Heavy dirt work yes I take it off. If I'm cutting grass and leaving my rake on, I use those 2 holes at the base of the ROPS and it is plenty high for mowing. Good video guys!

I bought a Mahindra 25hp E-Max with Front Bucket, Backhoe, 60" Belly Mower, Post Hole Digger and 60" Snow Plow with full frame Mount from front to Back. I have 1 Acre Love the backhoe for digging out bushes and stumps. Don't use the Drive Over Belly Mower to much of a pain to hook up I ended up buying a Cub Cadet Riding mower. Saturday I picked up 4 yards of topsoil with my dump trailer and loaded up 2 raised garden beds I just made Love the tractor I always find thing to do with it. Wish I had more land though. I am in Northern NJ so had lots of snow this year where I took off the snow plow and put the bucket back on so I could move all the snow off the driveway and had 10 foots mounds of snow. :)

Hey, thanks for the in-depth discussion on horsepower versus cost. At 71, I have been a big fan of "there's no replacement for displacement"!!! I appreciate you for the time you took to rationalize the options & possibilities before you purchased. This video may be boring or even irrelevant to some, but your decision makes perfect sense for your ( maybe not wants ) but needs regarding your personal requirements & situation. More people should spend some time going through this process before they commit their hard earned savings & find down the road that they wasted money that they could have directed to more important or needed categories. Good job for sharing your interesting, informative & entertaining thought process with the viewers.

I owned a B7100 Kubota tractor which I purchased new in 1978. It had a front end loader, rear blade, and a 5 foot Woods rear mount mower. It was a great tractor and did everything I asked it to do. The 5-foot rear mount Woods finish mower was great! I would not have never replaced it with a belly mower. It was easy on and easy off.

LOL I am a 62 year old and I bought the !880 in 2019 and we have 5 acers out side Milton on Canada , we feel the same about our 48 inch deck , we only put it on in the fall to run our lawn vacuum , other then that its a life saver ... snow , rocks , dirt , wood, lots and lots of gravel

We went with the BX2380 with the bucket and 60 inch deck primarily to mow and to push snow. So far I am very impressed with the pulling power. Pulled many trees out with it and pushed a ton of brush. I wanted the 23 over the 18 for ride comfort mowing 3 to 6 acres per week. Felt the smaller tires would have a tendency to give a more bumpy ride on some of the rough spots. I am right there with ya on the age department but I like how easy this deck is to get on and off compared to my old 48 inch John Deere deck. Don't even get me started on what a pain the old Deere's snow blade was to put on. These Kubota's are a whole different breed compared to the chain store throw away mowers that they make now. I even find myself looking for more things to do with the new tractor... That never happened on the old tractor. I don't feel all beat to death after a couple hours seat time like I did before.

Awesome job! Bought the same tractor a year ago. Same thoughts as Mr. Adler, only 2 acres, but also use it to pull firewood wagon, hoping it will run a post hole digger. Only issue so far was a small hydraulic leak but quickly fixed by the dealer. Thanks for the video!

Good advice overall. I grew up on a farm with a lot of tractors and agree with their assessment. I just got a 23s.

I too have a BX1880 3 years now and over 300 Hrs. I use it mostly for mowing in the summer and snow removal in the winter. Last year I bought a BaumaLight IP24 stump grinder and took out 14 stumps from my property. Amazing what those little tractors are capable of.

You can use the box blade with the mower deck. If you look at the dial left side under the seat. There is a spot that says top. If this mower has been adjusted right, the adjustment screw is right next to the left fender toward the top looking at it from behind. When the mower deck is all the way up, you can turn the dial to top, this will lock the mower deck to the top, letting you still use the 3 point hitch. Hope that helps.

As a farmer that has more than one tractor, this video is stellar. Why? Because there are so many smart questions to give people about the how and why when it comes to Homesteads/Farmsteads/Subsistence agriculture figuring out the size of the tractor(or even if you need one at all, as some riding mowers do the job for some) one needs for what they have is the most pinnacle of wrapping ones head around your personal needs. We have a Kubota B2100 with the LA301 bucket and PTO in the rear(as well as the 3 point), the Kubota M9000DTC (M series with the cab), and a Kubota side by side/UTV (RTV500) The UTV is a perfect example of doing your homework on what works for the land you use, as it is smaller width as the old Colorado farm was on a tree-covered slope and it had to fit between trees. Since we still have woods, we decided not to upgrade. However.. because we have 40 solid acres of woods? An ATV is in the future as that can handle the spaces between, as well as be more nimble on slopes and rocks. We would be perfectly set with one of the L series tractors to do those in-between jobs where we need to get between/under trees and still have the needed power. It is exciting to just go and buy all the things when starting up. But really. Do the research find the right fit for you, if it means a smaller tractor? Don't let that make you feel like you're not good enough in others' eyes. It just has to do the job YOU need it to do. Everything Grandpa is saying is spot on. And I do have the majority of Kubota equipment. I love them, a...lot. But I have a Troybilt Mower(riding and push), and grew up with Ford(now New Holand), and would cry like a babygirl if I could have a Case because that's my dream tractor. I am a tractor lover, no matter the brand. All i can say is don't get caught up in brands, find what you want/need. Whew.. sorry folks.. that was loooong winded of me lol

This video was so valuable. I was wanting a mower that could do occasional tractor work. This opened my eyes. Thank you.

Drive up on a 4 by 4 with the rear wheels, and use the loader to raise the front end. Turn the wheels on the deck sideways and it'll go right under the tractor and you have loads of clearance to hook up the mid PTO shaft. You can lock the mower in the up position with the height adjustment. That way you won't be letting it down when you use the rear 3 point hitch.. I have a BX2360, And I work the devil out of it I have a lawn maintenance business.

I also have a 60 in mid mower deck and although your highest clearance is with the deck off. You can raise the deck lock it in the top position and then raise and lower your 3 point hitch with out having your mower move. Once I found this It greatly improved my ability to keep the mower on and still do things with my 3 point hitch.

We bought a house with 5 acres recently that didn’t come with any land equipment. My husband is looking for a subcompact tractor so this definitely got his attention! He was glued to the screen the whole time. He really likes Kubota. Very useful information and a good review. Like the practical approach - not paying for what you don’t need - which needs to be considered before purchasing. Great advice!

This was a very informative video, It reminded me of when I was six and my Father bought an old ford tractor that he had to fix before he could use it. It had no attachments but it did have the capacity for a three point hitch. I don't know all what my dad paid for it I think it was less than $100.00 and my dad made all the attachments for it using parts out of a junk yard. He painted it caution orange and used it to mow down the overgrown fields throughout the township where we lived in his spear time. Thanks for bringing back memories I haven't thought about for decades.

I just bought a B2601 with the front bucket, AG tires and rear tiller. I didn't need the mower, as you said it would be more of a pain. Unfortunately I have to wait until August until I receive my order. I am patiently waiting...lol

The BX1880 and BX2380/BX23S come with 16.6- and 21.6-horsepower diesel engines, while the BX2680 packs a 24.8-horsepower diesel engine under the hood.

The auto-connect mower deck is why I bought a John Deere 1025R sub-compact tractor. I have the 60" deck with load and go that allows me to use my front end loader, less the bucket, to move the deck around since they are pretty heavy. I love my Deere and Kubota's drive over mower deck is a difficult to use.

SUNNY SLOPE HOMESTEAD has some tips on the Kubota Tractor. I believe he also has a small one. He's done several videos on it. One he pointed out a kill switch that wasn't in the literature, but important to know about. In another, he was upset over something lacking either lube or oil, I don't recall, maybe the transfer case?. It was something possibly overlooked by the local dealer, telling folks to make sure to just check it. He's very mechanically minded, thorough, practical & easy to understand. He has his channel Playlist set up where videos are easy to find. Plus, he's a funny, knowledgeable guy, gardener, canner, cook, loving husband, & dad. He's not too proud to ask for advise & listens. I love his chicken & goat videos. Hope you will check his Kubota videos out.

I like hearing your reasons. I ended up going with the bx23s when I got one last year. I need a back hoe from time to time and renting machinery is a pain in the rear. I am definitely glad I ended up going the route I went

Just the seat on the 2380 over the 1880 has me sold on the 2380, and the bigger tires. Thats worth the cost difference and all im mainly doing is mowing 1.5 achers

I have an 1880 that I bought in June 2020. It is a little workhorse and unless you need the rear PTO power, it will do everything the higher HP BX will do. It has the same loader capacity, same 4WD system and same frame. I took down retaining walls with it, moved 600k+ lbs of dirt grading my yard. I’m looking at stepping up to a B2601, but only because we are looking at some rear implements that need some extra HP and I want a BH. I could go with a 23S, but for a little more, it makes sense to move up a class and get the higher lift capacity. I would love to keep the BX and add to the fleet, but I can’t justify having both. Get yourself rear remotes and a hydraulic top link if you’re using a box blade or land plane and you will be much happier running stuff like that on the rear. Great video and honest opinions given.

Ralph, you made the right decision for you, personally I would have gone 25 or 30, but only because I would want to run a rear tiller and a mini hay baler with it. If I had a few acres of rented ground and was keeping a couple calves and the goats I would want to put up a little hay to cut my feed costs. When you figure the cost in the equipment, fuel and time it might be a wash, but at least it makes you less susceptible to the market price fluctuations due to season of the year and the weather during the growing season.

Rear finish mower much preferable to the belly mower overall. Not for everything, but easier to put on and off by a lot. Nice little machine, though. One of the reasons one might want a bigger tractor is for stability on hills. The difference between my old 26 hp, one up from a sub compact and the 40 hp I have now in stability is huge. Having a third range is a big convenience as well. Box blade is very handy for anyone who lives off the pavement.

I have the BX2380 with the 60 inch belly mower and like you I use the box blade a lot. As long as you set the mower to 0 it is locked at the top and rarely gets in the way. I am also adding a front Reese hitch for a 4500 winch that I hope to lift the front of the tractor so I can roll the mower in and out much easier

Great video i have a 25 horse massey witch i like very much i agree with you about the mower i allready had a zero turn before i bought my tractor i could see how the mower deck on the tractor would be a pain would not be able to get into small or tight places some people want one machine and done however what i have works for me thanks for the video

Nice little tractor but I would want a quick attach bucket so I could pickup limbs logs with pallet forks and get a quik hitch for the 3 point to make hooking up implements easier, you might want a tiller if you're into gardening. I've got a zero turn and I know for a fact, mowing 2 acres, it is much faster and easier on your turf. My last tractor was a John Deere 1025r with a drive over deck, 54", and had a backhoe on it which I used more than I thought I would, planting trees, digging up smaller trees, dug a burn pit, laid French drains, added a water faucet back by my shop and helped my neighbors with their projects. Actually made money on the side, I'm 65 on disability, bad heart. But I enjoy being out there helping oyhers.

Are you gentlemen aware there is a top of lift lock out for the mower so you can use the 3 point hitch with out the mower raising and lowering with the 3 point hitch. There are also two lock out positions to connect the 3 point hitch lift arms to which allows the mower to raise and lower without the lift arms going up and down. Just info for you. I am on my second BX series tractor with a belly mower and I love it. I found that if I back the tractor up on 2 2" x 10" blocks it make removing the mower much easier. I am 76 years old and with a little patients I can get it on and off. Another suggestion. Hitch up the pto shaft next after rolling the mower under the tractor. I makes reaching it much easier. My mower is the older fine cut mower that is no longer made and I wouldn't change it for anything. Respectfully Bob M

I have to say this is a great unbiased review. You bought what you need, that's the thing many people don't look at, they just rush out and buy something and then realize its either too big or too small, not enough power, implements don't work that they want, etc. If you don't need the PTO HP, and the extra torque of the larger engines the 18HP is fine. The Backhoe doesn't go on the 2380. The backhoe equipped version is a BX23S...its a BX2380 with an additional sub-frame installed on the rear to the middle of the tractor frame to accommodate the backhoe weight. The front loader is NOT a standard feature of any of the Kubota BX or B series tractors. Stepping up to the BX2380 or BX2680 you get larger tires, more torque, and more PTO HP. Engine HP and PTO HP is different...you most certainly will have a HP drop at the PTO, and the BX1880 is the lowest PTO HP in its class at 13.7HP Larger tractor will get you a larger loader/more lift capacity, more PTO HP, more rear 3 point lift capacity, and more hydraulic flow for more lift capacity, and able to run a few hydraulic implements which most of these sub-compact tractors can't really do anyways. The larger the tractor the more expensive, and the more expensive implements you can put on it LOL. I'm looking at a BX as well, however, I plan on running some PTO stuff so the BX2680 will be what I go with, yep slightly more expensive, but it'll have the PTO HP that I will need...also plan on getting the 60" mid mount mower deck as well. Your BX1880 will do anything you want, it just may take a little more time because you'd have to make more trips with the loader for example...heck I wouldn't have any problems with that either. I don't have a tractor at all, so when I get one gee what will my wheelbarrow do LOL. With the BX I'm looking at it'll run a 42 or 48 inch brush hog if I need to...however the plans are the loader, box blade, 60" non-drive over mid mount mower, pallet forks, and roto tiller. Who knows what I may end up with later on...so many things out there you can do once you get a tractor.

I have an 8 year old 1870 on just an acre of land as my wife says its the best money she has ever spend for me!! I only have 145 hours but and mostly bucket work mulch snow etc but nothing stops this little beast it reminds me of my older Mercedes diesels for the 70s and 80s. In fact I love it so much I am looking at a Lowboy II Kubota generator as a back up unit for my home, the engine in the 11KW is the same as the 1870/1880 and these engines just run and run if you maintain them!!

The JD 1025R drive over deck is far superior. I've done a tremendous amount of research & I'm going to order a Kubota B01 series (next frame size up) but going to get a flail mower instead which solved a huge problem I had w/Kubota as I could see not liking their mid mount either.

Had 3 bx s , have a 2380 now , as I pro landscaper they are little beasts , they are not commercial units but one can do a lot of things with them, as long as u know their limits, ( and urs ! Lol ) as “stock “ they can b a bit “ tippy “ without ballast etc , a great addition to them is a front grapple , but they can only do what they were designed to do, my l 39 back hoe is a “ real beast “ small enough to tow but plenty of power to get a lot done , using grapples etc under belly mowers can b a pain but they work , won’t replace say a super z hustle r etc but for the cost a great idea , and they cut well , just watch d another vid , forgot the Chan , but I did not know about the grease fitting on the deck plate for the hydraulic pedal ! Lol 😅hey who needs manual s ( instructions) ! Lol 😅good vid !

I got the BX23s because I use the heck out of my backhoe. I take that off for winter and use a land pride rear blade for snow along with my loader.

Thanks for the great review! I already have a bigger tractor FEL and looking to replace my 24 yr old mower/garden tractor. The BX1880 has been on my list, as I only need it to mow with and don't need the FEL. My only concern was how the 18 hp would handle the 54" deck and you seem to like the mowing capability of this tractor.... The dealer said the 54" deck might be a struggle and recommended the 2380 ,which I believe was an up sale tactic . Thanks again!!

I can run my tiller with the deck on I just adjust the cutting height knob to top and the deck does not lower
