From her comments, I take it that a 3T MRI is superior to a 1.5 MRI, adding that steep gradients are also important. Our urologist feels that the 3T MRI machine is not necessary, and the 1.5 images are sufficiently adequate. Any thoughts?

How can they be equal? Of course 3 Tesla is better. Softwares are different. Cost of 3T MR is over 10 times more expensive than 1.5 T MR. Images are more quality, deeper with less noise. Drop that urologist. Find a better one.
