Do they have counterweighted clappers? Im seeing slow-motion-moving-clappers
@DavidBraunton
@DavidBraunton 2 жыл бұрын
No, no counterweight, 11th has a wooden shift, and 12th nylon shaft. No counterweight, most of the weight is in the ball and flight

counterweighted clappers are very rare but not nonexistent. Buckfast abbey's tenor has one!

@@adamm2693 Stephansdom's Kantnerin also has one. Kolner Dom's Petersglocke originally had one but that clapper was replaced all the way back in 1951(the 1951 clapper is the same one that collapsed in 2011 silencing the bell).

These bells have power! Not like for Cornhill. The front 11 barely have any resonance!

Although I'm not a fan of change ringing, why does the tenor not hit the stay?
@DavidBraunton
@DavidBraunton 4 ай бұрын
At the start both bells are propped on their respective stays, but they're being rung down, so moving further away from the stay and sliders touching.

Indeed, although the bell foundry records them as C# and D#, 549.5 hertz and 616 hertz respectively.

@@DavidBraunton it's confusing that D# and C# sound the same as Eb and Db and I've not heard of hertz in camponogly

@@christianong3703 on a piano that's true they're the same note, but I think tuning wise there is a slight difference, sharp's (#) are flat of flat's (b) and vice versa. According to dove's guide: Grantham tenor is 549.4 hertz nominal, Maidstone tenor 541 hertz, Evesham tenor 552 hertz, Leighton Buzzard tenor 554.4 hertz - all described at C# Coventry Cathedral tenor 548.5 hertz, Loughborough tenor 567 hertz, St Michael Cornhill (London) 554.5 hertz, St Neots 565 hertz, all described as Db So there appears a slight overlap, but #'s seem lower than b's. There are some exceptions: St Mary's Beverley 544 hertz Db, Hoar Cross Staffordshire 540 hertz Db. Maybe the bell founders just decide on the day?
