A Cooper's Hawk took all the baby robins from the nest in our Gazebo. Sad for the mama robin that continues to try and feed the missing babies, but nature and circle of life and all of that.

A year later Mama Robin - You took everything from me Hawk - I don't even know who you are.
@raymorgan46578 ай бұрын
Yup. I'm pretty sure that this was her second set of babies for that season. They often have two, and this was late in the season. She didn't build a nest in that spot this year though.

Yeah robins are pretty dumb. The hawk literally took and ate the nestlings right in front of the parents. Guess they assume it’ll crap them back out into the nest or something…

It’s part of nature. That hawk has got to eat and feed its young too. 🤷♂️

I think because a worm baby has no animal soul and can survive on its own. But a bird is an actual baby that can't even sustain itself yet.

To those who may not know: Robins can have several broods in a nesting season. Losing one is not as big of an issue for them as it would be other birds, like Eagles.
@raymorgan46572 ай бұрын
Yes, this brood was her second or third of the season. We were really disappointed though since we had been watching them since before they hatched. We currently have a nice close-up camera on a bluebird tending to her eggs, but that one is inside our birdhouse and should be safe. They should hatch any day now. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bc6JqrSgzqeslps.html

Sad day for the Robin family. That's what happened when the snake got all the baby wrens, only the parents came and sensed something wasn't right while the snake was in there and waited a few feet away, then left.

Her reaction reminds me of what I witnessed last year... a finch was teaching its fledgling baby how to hunt and fly when someone didn't see the baby and stepped on it, crushing its skull. That guy never noticed it... After a while, the parent came to her baby's side and stared at it the way this robin stared at the nest. I could feel her grief. Soon she flew off just like the robin. Small animals have it rough

That's what you call a stealthy Cooper's Hawk! He just grabs and goes while mama's not looking! And dang.....he took all 3 of em', probably one of each of his nestlings! Everyone has to eat no matter what!

dang i know thats food chain and shit but the realization of the mama when she saw the nest empty made me sad dang bro
I didn't even know hawk was even around. We set the camera up on the nest to watch the eggs, watch them hatch, and see the baby birds. One night when I looked and saw the baby birds were gone, I checked the recorded video and saw what happened. We weren't there or watching when it happened.
