[Tutorial] Down by the Sea File Folder Mini Book for Graphic 45 by Donna Kauffman - #G45Selfie
"I wanted this to be a super special brand ambassador launch, so I am sharing a full mini book video tutorial today, teaching you how to make a complete 6.5” x 6.5” File Folder Mini foundation. I decorated mine using G45’s beautiful beach paper, By the Sea Deluxe Collector’s Edition collection!
For this introductory project, Graphic 45 asked us to create something that showcases our design style. A “selfie” project. I love it!
If you’ve been to my MiniBooksRMe website or KZfaq channel, you know I’ve created a lot of projects using file folders. I love their durability and flexibility. I’ve made everything from folios, to mini albums, to travelers notebooks.
Today we’re making a 6.5” x 6.5” mini album with three interactive pages. This will be the first file folder mini I’ve done in this particular size, so BONUS!
In the video below, we start off with a walk-through of the finished By the Sea sample. Then we get to work! This is a fun mini that anyone can make. I will walk you through a full, step-by-step assembly tutorial showing how to make this mini album foundation." ~Donna

I am so thankful that Donna's ideas and wonderful mini books are still there for us to view. Miss her SO! She was such a fabulous person, teacher and oh so treasured friend. Her "The Sound of Autumn:" (series 2--File Folder Folio #2,) I just brought out, very partially completed, --now to be completed with the most loving memories which I will keep forever..

This is great. I love it. I tried following along, but I bought file folders that have a deeper tab. They are 7/8" deep so my measurements are going to be off. I decided to wait and get standard sized folders and try then. Thank you for freely sharing this tutorial.

Great tutorial and beautiful album! I've always wanted to ask - when giving these albums as gifts - how do you let the receiver know where to place photos and where to journal? Without having to do a lot of verbal instruction so to speak!

Hello Lynn, sorry for the delay in responding to your question, in case you haven't figure it out, here are some helpful tips from Donna! Here are the steps I use. Tab strips for standard letter size folders are 4” x 5/8”. Hope this helps! ~ Donna How to cut folder tab mats: Trimming mats for folder tabs is not an exact science, but this is how I do it. Use this method for all tabs in this project. 1) Use a small dab of adhesive to attach the strip of pattern paper to the folder tab, to hold it in place, laying the strip directly on top of the tab. 2) Flip the tabbed mat over and trace the tab onto the strip. 3) Remove the strip from the tab and trim 1/8" INSIDE the traced line. 4) Then you'll have to trim off one end a bit shorter still. I often carefully curl the best cut end over to lay on the opposite end (do NOT crease in the middle, keep it “looped” and use that as my cutting guide, taking off approx. 1/8 from the other end. 5) If it is still too wide, do NOT cut the traced edge again - take a tiny sliver off the straight, uncut edge to make it smaller.

Hello Lynn, just to let you know that we do not have written instructions for this project. This was only offered as a tutorial from Donna. Sadly Donna passed away in 2020. Hopefully you can make an album by stopping and starting this video to have for future albums.
