Evolution of all Madden NFL games from 1988-2018!
Madden NFL (originally known as John Madden Football until 1993) is an American football video game series developed by EA Tiburon for EA Sports. It is named after Pro Football Hall of Famer John Madden, and has sold more than 100 million copies, and influenced many players and coaches of the physical sport. Among the game's realistic features are sophisticated playbooks and player statistics, and voice commentary that allows players to hear the game as if it were a real TV broadcast. As of September 2013, the franchise generated over $4 billion in revenue.
Electronic Arts founder Trip Hawkins conceived the series and approached Madden in 1984 for his endorsement and expertise. Because of Madden's insistence that the game be as realistic as possible, the first version of John Madden Football did not appear until 1988. EA has released annual versions since 1990, and the series' name changed to Madden NFL in 1993 after EA acquired the rights to use NFL teams and players. Despite Madden's retirement as a broadcaster in 2009, he continues to lend his name to and provide expertise for the game.

I grew up on madden 05 best ever. Then 07 got superstar mode. This was peak madden. Then they started getting rid of extra modes like "mini camps" and "create a fan" and real engaging franchise mode. They never recovered. They focused on MUT and online plau and destroyed the game

I go way back to the original Madden versions, and the ambulance driving through the players will never get old. I still recall playing day and night with a piece of paper by my side taking stats, as those days the game did not have them. My house was Madden crazy, as my brothers and friends would have whole leagues inside my house. Great memories.

I miss the ambulance. Or when you can just blast someone on the sidelines and get a penalty for it. Helmets poping off was good too. The sad thing is we still have basically the same sidelines from 04-05 till now in 18..lol

It's amazing how the more advanced madden got, the less fun it became. Simply because the devs just couldn't get the nagging bugs out. To this day Madden suffers from the same gameplay issues. That's a bit pathetic.

Didn't like Madden 19, but I'm still enjoying Madden 18. Got bored of it recently until I found out that playing as coach in franchise mode is actually pretty fun (when they included the whole college scouting and drafting stuff). Still hoping they get back to how it was in Madden 12 when the user has so much freedom of play (i.e. the player can be whatever position in franchise and you can create your own team and stadium). I can recall playing as a Center for an entire season in Madden 12 for some reason. Pumped for Madden 20. Hopefully they make it better than that dumpster fire they call 'Madden 19' 🤮

EA got overly freaking corporate, they don't care to innovate because they own ALL RIGHTS to making football games for the professional teams so everyone is kinda forced to buy their game no matter what state it's in. I bet some people miss NFL blitz here. Even their mobile game kinda sucks; they don't even bother to put it on Switch even though they turned it into a mobile app.

I’d really appreciate it if EA stopped putting out Madden 15 with roster updates now. Literally Madden 15-18 look the exact same and feel the exact same. If Madden 19 looks and feels anything like 18, I’m not buying it.

Ah! The days of Madden on 3DO; when all you could do was run for negative yards and all passes were incomplete. That 30-second clip beginning at 3:54 is an accurate video depiction of the frustration of a football gamer trying to play offense back in the 90's. Super Tecmo Bowl was beyond better at that time. Madden pulled away in '99 as far as graphics, game play, and franchise options. Hard to believe that was 20 years ago...

I do too. I hadn't bought a new Madden since Madden 25 on PS3 and I started getting frustrated because they kept ignoring franchise mode. Just seemed like copy and paste nearly every year. Went to PS4 and got Madden 19. Much better than the last time I played though they still got room for improvement

I've been playing madden since the first one and I can tell you without hesitation that madden 96 is the greatest madden ever. It might not seem like it now but trust me when it came out and the Sega version had their real names and the way it played, nothing better.

Playing Madden 10 right now, it's worlds better than Madden 17. Games have an authentic feel, good momentum, you can actually swat the football away, it's not an interception EVERY single time you make a bad throw, hardly any ten foot superman linebacker interceptions. More fun

I didn't play a madden game after madden 64 until Madden 18. Needless to say, mind blown. Didn't watch reviews of any, nor do I even remember watching gameplay so I never saw how they evolved until I watched a review for 18. Bought it. Love it.

I started on madden 04 when I was 8, but really got addicted on 08 when I was 12!! Now they've removed superstar, removed the NCAA games, franchise mode is just rinse & repeat now...the graphics improve, game rules stay up to date, MUT is cool, but the games now lack that addiction that 08 gave me.

Charlie Hart To be fair to EA, they legally can't make NCAA games anymore since they have to pay the players for their likeness and college players can't take money for anything except scholarships.

Why do some of the clips looked washed out, and another clip during the same game look a hell of a lot more clearer? For example, 18:20 is washed out AF, but at 18:45 the graphics are amazing.

I've owned 99, 2005, and 2013. Feels like every year, the game gets a little harder, but I think it just comes down to watching enough football to understand when is a good time to make a run or a pass, what defenses to apply for what teams and what formations.

I find it hilarious that from 2000 to 01 the huge difference in graphics but when madden 06 hit the 360 and to now, the graphics havent changed ONE BIT. That is so sad and the game played better to back then than now.

What this video essentially shows is that there has been very little graphic advancement since 2003. Other than prescripted cut scenes and movement mechanics, basically nothing has changed/improved in 15 years of Madden games.
