It is chiba lock (chiba gatame) but it isnt official name, official name is kuzure yoko shio gatame. And interesting is that this action finally wasn't ippon but only wazari because uke escape after 14 seconds.

Great video! But as a Judoka and a bjj practitioner, I feltso sad that Germany player got ezekiel'd from his own guard, seemed like he's defenseless and so helpless because of lacking of knowledge. A great played should be able to fight off his back. Like the great Neil Adams and Flavio Canto. Neil Adams has some amazing guard and he's dangerous on the bottom. Cheers for Neil's 9th degree!

I'm a judo black belt (1st dan) and bjj blue belt. I personally think the choke was too deep and strong to possibly be escaped (in bjj you see the same with the baseball choke trick).

Besides being a very good judoka, Flavio Canto is also a BJJ black belt so he has a lot of options in the ground, top or bottom, including submissions, guards, sweeps, passes. Many judokas cross train and so should BJJ guys. Jiu jitsu and judo are complementary by both sports perspectives.

Another who was dangerous off his back is Ray Stevens more so now as he's a BJJ black belt under roger gracie. I cross train BJJ and Judo and for me the goal is to be an all round grappler, I got into it because I realized all my favorite BJJ players had strong judo backgrounds.

At least the Olympic rules. Kosen judo is more complete, and it's starting to make a comeback. Still hard to find schools outside of Japan. Edit: I hope they change the Olympic rules, or at least make two categories of judo

@@GrapplerKingdom for instance Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake. the grip fighting can use the beginning sequences of the music, and ends with the ippon in a crescendo kzfaq.info/get/bejne/b8l-hKlzlbqolo0.html

Could someone tell me why a lot of the competitors stay on their knees after being tripped or thrown? Is that a rule?
@adystef1750
@adystef1750 4 жыл бұрын
that s called the turtle and no, that s not a rule. In Judo,when u “fail” a throw, ur most likely to go into the turtle for the referee to stop the match.why does he stop the match? he stops it because in judl there s a time limit and if he doesnt see that ur going for a pin ,submission, he s going to stop and start again on ur feet

I am a BJJ player. I really like the bow and arrow chokes, it is my favorite in the gi. I think I saw a couple of Kimura locks, my favorite submission in gi and no gi. I do not want to be disrespectiful, these guys are certainly high level and very good, but i feel the guy that was submitted by an ezekiel choke while having the other guy inside his guard could have avoided it; he could have pushed the other guy up by grabing the oponent's gi on the armipts; he could have flared out the other guy's elbows towards the direction their heads are pointing; he could have tried a sweep; and these are just simple moves to defend the ezekiel that may or may not have worked, but he just did not do anything and not even closed his guard and seemed to not know how to defend the choke.

Paulo Otávio Moreira dos Santos judo ne waza is basically bjj ne waza but there s this hige difference. in judo, u have to do a move really fast, in order to keep going , in bjj u can go with the flow, more casual

A lot of judo gyms do focus on stand up, however, I do cross train BJJ and Judo.Difference is speed of application BJJ five minute round. Judo on the ground you have far less time, think he was trying to stall the clock out for a ref stand up. I'd love to have seen you make that comment about guys like Ray Stevens or Travis Stevens (no relation) both Black belts in BJJ and Judo both absolute beasts, in judo as with bjj you have guys who are clueless about certain aspects of the other's game for example because a lot of BJJ players don't seem to like getting thrown going for a big throw then transitioning straight to side control actually unsettles a lot of them. the other is doing things like armbar catching on the way down during a throw.

Most of matches have no commentary and the volume of background sounds is too low. What's the point of making video with pretty much no sound.

As an ex bjj player i could win a match with a choke or a submission. I can figure out why a throw in judo is considerd a way to win but why you can win a match also with a control of the opponent on the ground?
@canonisensys1653
@canonisensys1653 5 жыл бұрын
it's a part of judo's philosophy that a warrior loses the fight on his back so by controlling him and keeping him on his back while you're on top means he's defeated . also if you watched wrestling you'll see that immobolizing your apponent is just as effective as a choke or submission . bjj players are more relaxed and calm on their back because that's how bjj works but in judo you put him a judoka on his back and he'll act like a fish out of water . sorry for my bad english .
@DavidB5501

I haven't done BJJ, but can't you also win points in BJJ by controlling your opponent on the ground? I looked up the rules, and they mention points for back control, mount, knee on belly, and passing the guard to gain control. Some of these would count as holddowns in Judo, but only if you hold them for at least 10 seconds. The other difference is that in Judo you can win a contest outright if you can keep a holddown for 20 seconds (under the current rules), but in BJJ you would have to wait till the contest time runs out, and in some cases you could be disqualified for 'stalling' if you keep the same hold for too long. You could ask why either Judo or BJJ give points just for controlling your opponent, when in a 'real fight' this would not finish the opponent off. I guess the reason is partly that Judo and BJJ are combat sports and not just self-defense systems, but also that even in a real fight controlling your opponent without injuring him can be useful. For example police and security guards are supposed to subdue and arrest people, not kill or injure them if they can avoid it.

@@senerzen Yes, that's a good point. Still, in self defense it is dangerous to go to the ground, because your opponent may have friends to help him.

The answer is pretty simple when you have aggressive people control on the ground they are getting calmed down so that in some way mean that you defeat the aggression.
