In this tutorial, you will learn how to create different types of Spiral Surfaces in Grasshopper. We will cover multiple approaches on how you can generate them that can be used as a base geometry for spiral staircases, ramps, landscape design, and many other things.
First, we will teach you how to use Point Polar component that is an essential element in the process of creating all sorts of spiral curves and surfaces. Once we go through it, we will cover the making of Spiral Ramp (Helix Surface) and two types of Conical Spiral Surfaces.
An extended version of this tutorial contains a couple of additional tips and tricks on how to combine the Golden Ratio in the process of creating Spiral Surface.
If you watch our extended tutorial, you will also learn how to create a spiral ramp in Grasshopper used in the project "Spiraling Observation Tower" designed by Effekt Architects.

Thank you for the tutorial! Do you know a way where you can control the points of the spiral, so you're able to create an slug like figure by widing the spirals more and more to the outer circles?

hi! thanks for the tutorial! could u also explain how to make a spiral ramp with varying thickness (i.e. 3m distance at the top and 1m distance at the bottom)

can i create surface using golden ratio? the bottom for example starting Ø6m and height 6m? but golden ration should be used for the spirals> and maybe for the height (side shape)

Can you please be more specific which part of the tutorial you are referring to?
