I’m 23, born a year or so after Jerry died. I grew up on classic rock, but only got into the dead over the past two years. The feelings they give are almost indescribable, but if you’re here I’m sure I don’t need to explain that to you. I put this music on and watch these guys and I just weep in pure joy and amazement. Whose with me?

Never went to another show after 1978. I have watched the 7/7/89 show over and over and thought it may have been the absolute best. I have also seen a version of "The Other One" with Vince, and now can't fiond it. If anyone knows where to find it, please let me know- it was outdoors, but not the one at Golden Gate Park.

I was at this run of Hampton shows (3/26-3/28). Best set of shows I ever saw the Boys play. Great arena. Only 12,000 capacity, best acoustics of any indoor venue I've been to, and by then Hampton Coliseum was the last general admission venue the Dead played on the East coast. They loved playing Hampton, and Hampton loved hosting them. I recall trying to find a hotel for me and my friends. When I inquired at one place about vacancy the gal replied, "We're all booked up that weekend! The Grateful Dead are coming to town and we're proud of it!" Good times.

It was the crowd going off on the line, "Waits backstage while I sing to you!" that set this off imho. You saw Jerry smile, Brent picked it up a notch and the whole thing was elevated. Perfect example of how the band fed off the crowd and vice-versa.

This was such an uplifting show. I was right up in front, no more than 15 feet away from center stage, and seeing Jerry really loving being there was amazing. I was also at the last show (I believe) before his abscessed tooth - at Giants Stadium, I think. A Satisfaction encore. Anyway, the return was fantastic. I loved my time as a "Deadhead". He is the reason I started playing the guitar.

So amazing the energy between the crowd and the band. Every time the crowd erupted the boys just turned up the juice even more. It felt like a volcano was just about to blow! This rivals 5/8/77, but it’s like they’ve matured and truly mastered what they do. It’s true, we are incredibly lucky to have access to so many shows, so much has been recorded on apps like Relisten. We could listen for the rest of our lives(and I will) and still you won’t hear the same Jerry solos no matter how hard you try. How TF did he do it?

Wen I was in my early 20's in the late 80s and the dead would come to New York and play 5 shows at the garden and 5 more at the meadowlands and my friends and I would see a bunch of shows, the experience was beyond awesome. Somehow this group inspired a culture of community that cant be reproduced. A lot of great jam bands out there but I dont think anyone can replace the dead for the culture they created.
