Hands down tightest version of this song in my opinion. That whole spring 77 tour the whole band was on top of their game

So about a week ago i was visiting the cornell campus and naturally i stopped by barton hall. i'd been there before, but this time i just opened the door and there were three other people in the entire building. I stood there in the middle of the gym floor playing this exact "brown eyed" on my iPod, imagining myself looking at the boys on stage surrounded by roadies and ivy league kids over 30 years before.

+Gregory Andrew I agree with you wholeheartedly brother. Jerry and the boys were on this night. There's speculation that this night was so powerful that they dont even remember it even happening lol. And this particular version of brown eyed woman is the best and jerrys solo makes me jizz out my ears everytime.

I finally managed to graduate from Cornell in 5/77 although I was class of '75 - and this was the last event I attended before I left. It was such a memorable concert because it was so clear and pristine - the acoustics were the best Barton Hall ever produced.

Only thing there is to say to the thumbs down gang: you do not and will not get it re: The Grateful Dead. Perhaps this is the iconic live version of "Brown Eyed Women." The group performance is as on target as ever they could be. Jerry's solo alone contains a handful of spine tingling moments. Clapton once said that whole songs exist and may be justified for one single note; the one minute riff has has several notes which Clapton would believe fit that status. LISTEN. If you still don't like it, pease move on quietly.

A golden rule for me through life is if you want to tell if somebody has a basic human soul ask them how they feel of the Grateful Dead. Statistically 20 out of 813 (downs vs ups at the present) would be true with the percentage of unemphatic psychopaths in the world who couldn't comprehend the emotional chills from a Jerry riff.

I love this rendition, but I think the BEW from Capitol Theater in April is even better... the solo, at least. Everyone talks about May '77, and with good reason, but much of the year was good to them. The Dead didn't really have hot months as much as hot tours (e.g., Spring, 1990), because, generally, on a given tour, everything was falling into place-- limited drug use, good locations with the right audiences, even the crew having their shit together, etc.-- or it wasn't. It didn't take much to throw the Dead off their game, because there was a lot that could go right or wrong, and it was a delicate balancing act. Things were going great for them on this night, and this BEW is testament to that fact.

This may be a tad too fast, but this is probably one of the things that makes this the best version of this song ever - in my opinion, mind ya. Jerry's on fire, everything sounds perfect, so much enegery in this performance, driving forwards all the time. This is pure magic!

Jerry's voice has such a happy soulful innocence. It's a voice you couldn't ever imagine saying something mean. I mean every time he says "sound of the thunder with the rain pourin' down" sounds so innocent. 0:43
