I played this song on my way to prison to remind myself i could do this. when i got in there i met the only other deadhead on the compound and we kept each other going thru music. He was white and im black but prison racial tension was never between us. We were from different walks of life and from different parts of the country. The only thing we had in common was the Grateful Dead and that was all we needed. When one of us was feelin down we'd crank up the tunes and jam. Makes me tear up thinkin about it. Couldnt have made it w/o him and the Dead is what brought us together, forever grateful.✌🏾😎🍄

Just heard the heartbreaking news that NBA legend Bill Walton has died. I thought of this video almost immediately, as Walton gifted Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart the Celtics jacket that he wears in this video, from 1987. Walton was immensely proud of his two seasons as a Celtic, and I'm sure he'll be cheering them from Heaven as the Celtics go after Banner 18. RIP, Bill Walton☘

That's great to hear. I'm proud of you for taking the responsible road and thinking of your kids first. I'm 51 and made the mistake of thinking I could keep living in denial. While my life flew behind me, I missed out on parts of my kids' early years, and I regret it tremendously. We're close now, but I'll never get those days back. Keep it together. It's worth it. Do whatever it takes. Listening to this every morning is a great start to a sober day.

The line, "I will get by, I will survive," became a mantra of resilience in the Dead community. When Jerry Garcia fell into a diabetic coma in July 1986, it looked like the group could be finished; when he returned to action in December, the group opened with "Touch Of Grey," reassuring fans that they would indeed get by.

I am 41, saw this video first time when I was 14 or so. Now I am suffering badly badly from depression with huge suicidal thoughts for 11 years now. This song came to my mind a year ago and I play it every day for myself, hoping I will get by and will survive.
@ayeartogrow
@ayeartogrow 3 ай бұрын
Hey @snakeroll I hope you're doing ok. I'm 47 and depression runs in my family. Lost a brother to suicide, and 6 of 8 of my immediate family have attempted. I however have been one of the two exceptions. I think about this a lot. Why am I the way I am? I've always felt about the way I feel. Nothing makes me feel better, nothing makes me feel worse. And so I've concluded that there must those out there who naturally feel "bad". Just the way I naturally feel generally ok (not amazing, but ok). And they must just tend to hover there the way I tend to just hover here. It sounds like this person is you. So, in a way, I've been thinking about you off and on for at least 30 years. I've worried about you and I've hoped for you. And after 30 years of thinking I still don't really know what to say to you. Because what do I know about it? Nothing really. That's all I know, is that I know nothing about it. I'm a falconer. If you are drawn to outdoors, wildlife, or the natural cycle I suggest you look into it. There will be local groups or clubs maybe. Try looking them up on the internet and ask someone to take you out flying with their birds and see what you think of it. Hawks and falcons do not have easy lives. Nor do the prey that they hunt. If they succeed on a hunt, something dies. If they fail in hunting, they die. And that is the natural world that we are so detached from. Death is such a huge part of life, but we have been removed from that. Maybe reconnecting with nature and the natural life cycle would be helpful. Last thing I will say is I've seen a lot of things die. Predator and prey in the natural world and I will tell you this. None of them go quietly into that dark night. Even in scenarios where any right minded person would just let it end. They fight for every breath in every situation until the very end. And from that I've learned the value of this life. It is simply in life itself. It isn't complicated. Life is worth living, it is reason enough. You don't need to be safe, or happy, or comfortable, or anything. You just need to breath each breath and live it. Mice do it. Rabbits do it. Falcons do it. We can do it too. To the last breath.

I lost my friend recently who was an amazing human and a devoted Dead Head. One of those rare people you meet in life in passing you feel like you've known forever after a couple minutes. Heard this song for the first time in decades after coming home from his memorial service. It was all I could do to keep my composure, but in hindsight I think it would have been worth it to just give in and break down to let it out. Randy, you were an amazing friend, and I'll be seeing you soon.

My uncle Bobby turned me on to the Grateful Dead at an early age back in the 80's. This was always one of his favorite songs. We lost him last September to COVID. I play this song today in remembrance of him. Most of my music tastes today reflect what he introduced to me when I was young. I love you uncle Bobby, I miss you, and this will forever be our song.

Never was a big fan of the dead but this song really hit me last year. My dad was in the hospital and my mother was away visiting him for the week. They were both living with me at the time so it was odd to have the house so empty. There was constant worry, dread and anxiety I was facing cause of what was happening. One day during the week while bored, I started playing a youtube mix and came across this song. It spoke to me. I listened to it daily while my family was away it gave me a small glimpse of hope. I eventually got to take the trip as well to see my dad one last time before he passed away that fall. This song now has a very special place in my heart for getting me through one of the longest, most difficult weeks of my life. Rip dad...

After hearing that it had singing skeletons in it, I decided to look it up out of curiosity. Needless to say I never expected to start tearing up during it. Life's been a mixed bag for my family for a long time and this month has been especially rough for my parents and I, didn't expect for the lyrics to be so encouraging. I miss him every day. I survived, just a different person. May his memory live on for generations. I'll never forget that day.... Ah, Jerry, you left us with so much love, thank you. My last concert was in 1991.... everyone had tears in their eyes when they played this. We didn't know that four years later...bless you, Jerry and the GD, for the music and love.

Me too, in 1987. Then I didn't think of them much again until 2001 when I heard Sugar Magnolia for the first time in a bar. Then I became a total Deadhead.

This is my recovery song when I had to leave MY house 2011 .& Unlce John's Band was in rehab 30 days when I was 36yrs old. Rehabilitating myself again @ 68yrs old after a relationship since 2008 I found out after 16yrs how vulnerable I can be. Today is just for today & I will survive XOXOXO ❤

I'm a 28-year-old millenial, and I usually like electronic music, but this song put me so at peace that it's become my favorite song. I'm not in a depressive phase, but I deal with suicidal depression, and I suspect this song'll be a companion the next time depression rears its head. "I will get by... I will survive."

Seek God with all your heart, you will find Him. I went through the same 46 years ago, when my Lord and Savior Yeshua/ Jesus reach me from darkness and drugs. With Him you will no only survive, but thrive. He make me a new man.
