Isn't permit a present tense verb though? Can you not think of any cultural reason(s) specific to Paul's day that would have made it necessary for him to stipulate such a thing? It's called context. If all the important cultures of his day were well adapted to a highly patriarchal world view, can you not see that bucking that trend could have prevented Christianity from ever even taking hold? Why aim to treat the modern day as though it's the equivalent of his? Or why rely on the unrealistic notion that ever pontification is a locked down decree from on high for all time? Perhaps you really are just moderately intelligent and, like so many who are, possess enough vanity to think your intellectual superiors should hold you in higher regard than you're due.
