I worked a card show he was at and spent the afternoon talking to him to keep him from being bored. We laughed so hard we were both crying. I had him sign a 8x10 to my girl friend , last night was great can't wait till next time im in town love Doc Ellis .... Was a joke to my girl friend she said no one would do it. Doc did but said my wife better never see this. My girl friend kept it beside her bed till she died dec 2008 then I kept it there till it was stolen . Great memory of great time. Awesome guy very funny..

Very cool that you did a vlog on Dock. I got to know Dock a little during the Senior Professional Baseball League. It was held in FL in 89/90 and my family had season tix for the St Pete Pelicans (a team Dock was a pitcher/pitching coach for). Got to talk to him a lot. Hugely nice guy, and helped a lot of players try to get off drugs or to not abuse drugs while they're in MLB. I also got to talk to Dave Cash, his Pirates teammate at the time of the LSD incident. Dave told us a hilarious story about how he would sit next to him (something players didn't do if their pitcher was pitching a No hitter), but he'd sit next to him occasionally during the game and go "man, you're still throwing a no hitter!" knowing he was high still. lol They were good friends though. That was an amazing league you would have loved. It was filled with players over 35 who had MLB experience. There were several HOF's and big stars from the 60s and 70s.

My dad in the early 1960's worked at a bowling alley near LAX called Airport Bowl. It was around where Century City is. Before all the landing lights and fences were in place today, we would sit in our car at the end of the runway and watch the planes take off and land right over us. Some fun days.

As a Cubs fan I saw quite a bit of Dock Ellis and some really good Pirates teams. I did see him pitch at Wrigley Field. Dock was a pretty good pitcher, and quite the character. Sadly both of his daughters passed away young. Only his son survives.

"I saw 3 guys at the plate and I aimed at the middle!" I'm not even a baseball guy, but growing up in Pittsburgh that was such a legendary story. I always said that if I ever made a sports movie that wasn't about Hockey, it would have been that story. The documentary is quiet awesome.

Jordan, enjoyed your Vlog on Doc Ellis. I have been a Pirates fan for 50 years, and saw Doc pitch several times. I always hated the big red machine growing up. But have great respect for them now. The Pirates/ Reds battles were always great baseball. Look forward to meeting you , if you ever get to Pittsburgh. Thanks for all the great Vlogs and sharing your life with us.

That explains the flower pot he was wearing instead of a baseball cap. Reminiscent of BJ Thomas who recorded his iconic song, "Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head" while totally stoned, who, now that he's reformed and sober sees it as a tragic consequence of his addiction that he has no recollection of his career's crowning achievement.

Interesting vlog. I like to hear happy endings. Sparky was the manager of the Tigers in 1984 when they won the world series. Great players on that team. Have you heard of Jim Abbott the one handed pitcher from Flint Michigan? My home town. He pitched a no hitter for the Yankees in 1993. He wrote an interesting book about his life. Great guy.

Jordan,👍👏👏👏😃. How did I miss this vlog?. I think I got a new phone last year and I got behind. This was a Great Vlog, Great Story, Hey I grew up loving sports, baseball, basketball, football, wrestling, racing, all the girls in our family was exposed to this. My oldest brother played basketball and ran track. He was good in highschool. He won a lot trophies and medals. He went to college, unfortunately. He got hit by a drunk driver, his neck was broken. It ended any chance of him playing profrssional. This vlog I found so interesting..bit funny. Most of All, he changed his life. He made a difference before he passed. Sometimes something has to happen before one get the message. I never saw Dock spelled that way. What you have done Jordan with your Vlogs is re introduce us to people we were either too young to remember, forgot, or just for some reason, never heard of. Don't think for one minute what you do don't matter. I for one I'm restful your Vlogs cover a variety of things, places, people. I get excited when I hear the notification bell ping. I know whatever you vlog is going to be good.👍. You made the right choice to do this as a living. I'm enjoying all of your videos. I always learn something. Take care, give JAH a belly rub for me. We love you both.💞💞. Love, respect and positivity always. ✌️🖖🤗🥰💞😁🌠🌷. Vee.🙂👋.

Hi Jordan, thank you for your smile and cheerful demeanor. I love that you bring us stories of people we may have never heard of before and, for me, Dock Ellis is one of those. It appears that he lived a very reckless and self-indulgent life and hurt many people along the way. Despite this he appears to have been a great baseball player. However, I'm glad that he eventually found redemption and used his experiences and voice to help other people who may have already gone down that path or prevent others from doing it.

When Fisk was with the Red Sox, he didn't like his teammates talking to (possibly other teams) but definitely the Yankees. When Jerry Remy was with the Red Sox, they were playing the Yankees, Remy was going to say hello to Mickey Rivers (who Remy played with on Angels) Fisk, grabbed him and said "you don't talk to them, there the enemy." I know someone in the sports media and he told me greenies were out in the open, they were on the table where the food spread for the players.
