My Aunt who lives in Washington now, went to San Fernando High School at the same time he did when she lived in Los Angeles. She remembered him singing to Donna during lunch breaks all the time at school. The girls used to smile and giggle when he was around. She said he was really nice and remembered the plane crash too. I also worked with a guy at the Stein Mart in Granada Hill's and his grandfather and Ritchie's grandfather were brothers. Turns out Ritchie was a first cousin to him.

My Mom was at the last show that Buddy Holley, Ritchie Valens, and the Big Bopper performed for The Winter Dance Party. She was born and raised in Blackhawk County, Iowa and her birthday was a few days after the concert. So, my Grandparents allowed my Mom and her 2 sisters along with another friend to go. They went to see Buddy Holley primarily, but my Mom was turned into a huge Ritchie Valens fan after watching him preform that night. When they woke up the next day and found out all had been tragically killed, she was devastated. She could never talk about it without crying. So, that's my little story for my Mom, she's no longer here to see your vlogs, but she would have loved them! Thanks again Jordan and Jah.

@@texasgina 😞 I'm so sorry about your Mom. It kinda hurts when you forget for a minute and think "oh wow, they'd really love this - I'll have to tell them about it later!" It still happens to me with some of my loved ones who have been gone for years. But you never know, she might very well be dancing with Richie Valens somewhere right now! ♥️😉

You Know it doesn't matter how long ago your Mom and Dad have been gone. My folks have been gone 18 and 15 years and I still grieve forthem. A day doesn't pass that I think I gotta call Mom and Dad about this, then I think..."Oh."

@@smokey1255 yes that is so very sad, I do that from time to time about my parents. Deep down inside we just don't want to have to accept that they are gone. 😟😢😐

Richie Valens’s La bamba still gets played on radio in the UK. Last Christmas I went to see the musical ‘Buddy’ at a London theatre. The song that got the most cheers was La bamba. People of all ages were singing and dancing in the isles. It was fantastic.

So cool - I was 14 when I first saw the movie La Bamba when it was released for tv screening and was inspired to learn guitar - the sound track was awesome but I also bought Ritchie Valens original recordings as much as I love the Los Lobos cover Ritchie’s recordings have a sound and that I love - it was goal for over 30 years to visit his grave finally did last year 2018 travelling from Australia RV road trip New York to LA pulled into street where entry to the San Fernando mission Cemetry gates are at 2::00 and waited in the Rvlike an excited kid waiting for sun to come up to go in and visit his grave while I was there spoke to groundsman who said almost daily Ritchie Valens grave is visited by fans from all over the world 60 years after his death that’s is pretty incredible he has inspired many people to play guitar what legend

Waylon Jennings was Buddy Holley's bass layer at that time. Waylon was supposed to go on the plane with Buddy Holley and Ritchie Vallens, but he (Jennings) saw that the Big Bopper was sick with the flu so he gave up his seat to him. It was a decision that haunted Jennings the rest of his life. It was reported later that a Buddy Holley band member heard an exchange between Jennings and Holley. When Buddy Holley found out that Jennings had given up his seat, Holley told Jennings, "I hope you freeze your ass off on the bus". To which Jennings replied, " I hope your airplane crashes".

Poor Pacoima was known as the armpit of the San Fernando Valley - probably because of all the industry. You will hear people refer to it in movies and TV derisively, but most people miss it not knowing what they were talking about. : ) I fell in love with Ritchie's music because of "La Bomba." Such a sad story of such a talent.

I remember "the day the music died." I was 11 and really into Buddy Holly and Richie Valens(uela) and was really devistated. It was the first time in my young life that people I knew of and admired died and broke my sense of everything's going to be alright. The interesting thing about that flight is that Waylon Jennings was supposed to be on that flight but traded with either Richie or J.P. because he had a cold. Waylan went from being a member of Buddy's band to being a big country music star. I grew up in LA County until I was 20 and still miss the area. I'm now in my 70s, my house is paid for, and can't afford LA any more.

I was actually in Pacoima back in 2000 and I stayed at Ritche's Aunt (Ernestine) and Uncle's (Lelo )house. So I got to meet them, unfortuneatley, Ernestine was in the hospital at the time but I was able to still meet her. I live in Iowa and I'm about 2 1/2 hours-3 hours away from Clear Lake, Iowa, where Ritchie's, Buddy's and The BB's plane went down, and live about 45 minutes away from where their pilot is buried. I am actually going to be going to Clear Lake and Mason City this summer. I can take some footage from the crash site. I saw the movie La Bamba back in 87, when it came out and honestly I had no idea who Ritchie Valens was. I only knew who the Big Bopper was and Buddy Holly. But after seeing the movie, I mean it's a real tear jerker, and I came interested in knowing more about Ritchie. Thank you so much for doing a vlog on Ritchie.
