To be fair: the OG Blob movie was a low bar to surpass. A more accurate statement would be that we couldn’t hope to make this remake today.

Of note, even the strongest Acids that can eat through metal, wood, flesh etc are easily contained within glass bottles... the primary part that makes up glass, silicon dioxide, is very nonreactive so its either impervious or the acid takes stupidly long to eat through it, there are a couple of acids that can eat glass but everything seen in the movie shows the blobs isnt all that strong... didnt appear to effect stone or similar materials and hardly touched alot of metals outside of using muscle strength to crush or burst seals. So yeah a Glass jar would hold the blob parts, id be more worried about the rubber seal being eaten away myself.
@lisamaitland157
@lisamaitland157 Жыл бұрын
It's acid is part of it's digestion. It gets acid excited when food is nearby. As for it being in the jar, the Jar is not food. Not to mention while inside that jar i don't think it can detect bio mater. This would explain why it's not trying to push the lid at the top. It does not detect food, so it's kind of Docile. There is a scene in Beware of the blob, of it being in a Jar. It was not till the Jar was removed from the freezer. Then even with the seal broken it did not try to get out till a Fly was nearby. It pops the lid, and waits for the fly to land on it. So if this Jar is air tight, it has no clue to what's around it. I would not worry about the seal, it has enough pressure to push or break the lid. It's not going to do it, because it's lost track of it's prey. The priest was lucky when picking up the pieces with his bare hand. Heat from your fingers will defrost the frozen cubes, to get your fingers slightly wet with blob material.. The way they stopped the Blob in this move was stupid. If you miss just one piece of it, you will have more of it. Put it back in space, shoot it in the direction of a blackhole lol.

@@lisamaitland157 Hadn't really thought about it like that, that it was a voluntary thing the blob did when needed... given its meaty nature it might just turn it on and off like a bacteria with digestive enzymes or it might even have internal vacuoles it envelopes its victims in. I just always thought it as a property of its surface make up for decades since we dont really see any kinda organs in it (its constantly tearing and churning itself up into chunks and back again) and most stuff floating inside it just starts to dissolve which is why i go with the acidic natural property of its substance. But who knows, is fun to think about the realistic biological processes of movie monsters though.

The Blob actually didn't "eat through" wood or metal. Mostly it goes through or around. And glass is used to hold acids. Glass keeps some spiders from walking up it. I would expect an all glass jar to hold a little tiny blob would work if held closed tight enough.
@lisamaitland157
@lisamaitland157 Жыл бұрын
While inside the Jar, it would have no perception of lifeforms around it. That's why it's docile inside the jar and not trying to push the lid.

Yeah when she said it ate through wood and metal I asked myself, what movie did she watch cause this is my favorite remake, I’ve seen this movie more than both of them and the blob never ate through wood or metal. She’s got a bad perception.
@lisamaitland157

@@scouttalent7456 "This movie" It had a acidic chemical, but it was not strong enough to eat through anything but flesh. It did react to the table, but never burned it per say. Just a light smoke on contact, then it was over. Now in the old movie i always thought it was made of some light form of acidic life. when the nurse tossed acid on it, it had 0 effect. It absorbed it, because no acid was on the ground afterwards. So to me that meant it's property's were construct of, or a little of that acidic material. Kind of how acid would not work on the Xenomorph, it's made of certain property's that resist or need it. The Blob could use this, to protect it's self from fire. "but" most Acid freezes between 16.6c to -15c So this is why the Blob hates ice :). It's basically a slow moving, Stomach acid machine lol. And no it did not eat metal or wood in this movie :)

When the Blob is on the ceiling above Paul when he is calling the police station you can see some juice from it drip down and land on the desk where is starts to smoke and eat through the table top. You can see this in the video at time code 11:54

Not "80's logic," just simple chemistry. Different types of corrosives work on different types of materials. Hydrochloric Acid, which is most likely what the blob secretes as it is the acid produced by your stomach for digestion, can eat through metal and wood and has no effect on glass. If an acid was able to eat through any substance there would be nothing you could contain it in. Hydrofluoric acid can eat through glass, plastic and some types of metal but does not affect nickel, gold, platinum, silver, Teflon, rubber or neoprene.

32:40. I believe the preacher character was talking about "the end of days", especially the parts of "creatures" rising up. Then again, the preacher character was partially crazy in this movie, so you can probably interpret that statement in a variety of ways. ;)

Also, there's something else that's also worth a look: Prey (Dutch name: Prooi) (made in 2016) aka Uncaged (released in 2020) Dutch Lion Horror movie by Dick Maas. It's about a man eater lion that accidently gets released in the city of Amsterdam and wages war with the humans by attacking them in the remote areas of the city. It's a killer animal subgenre movie within horror. :)

People who condemn horror movies as "too violent" are such hypocrites. Every single day, people die horribly and needlessly because of someone else's carelessness or indifference. But the films that try to actually explain and shed light on these issues? They must be the REAL problem, right? I guarantee you, if these knuckleheads had their way, and every piece of media was "family friendly", there would still be just as much violence and suffering in the world as there is now.

44:16. I mean, technically something like the Blob COULD happen. We don't know what is out there in the universe, and bits and pieces from other star systems continually travel through our own system, and sometimes end up on Earth. For all we know, there could be FAR WORSE things out there, and the only way you can "fight it" is, as the movie points out, with "microbe hunters". Not all "life" is human sized or larger, after all, as Men in Black has shown in the past. And that's just the stuff that comes from outer space. It doesn't even take into consideration the stuff that is still hidden on Earth or frozen in places that we still can't access, like The Thaw (2009) clearly shows. Also, like many sci-fi horror movies point out, never underestimate the capability of humanity on creating its own doom, either through plain curiosity, greed or in the pursuit of power (and military capability). We might not NECESSARILY be looking to destroy ourselves - it might simply be a side effect of something else we did. :)

Killing a kid is too easy? It never happens in movies which is stupid when it comes to creature movies or just movies where people are dying in general. I respect movie's that have the balls to do that. I also respect movie's that don't wrap everything up nice and end super depressing or tragically. Kids, handicaps, animals, etc, would be the first to go if a creature is looking for prey.. it makes 0 sense that they survive everything.

The Girl Next Door (2007) is a movie I would classify as torture porn and it is based on real events. Also a very, very, very low budget torture porn movie I Spit on Your Corpse, I Piss on Your Grave (2001), also called The Captives, which is some indie film makers attempt to make a direct sequel to the original I Spit on Your Grave (1978) by claiming that the main character in ISOYG was impregnated and this movie is about her daughter.
