Nee means a woman's maiden hame, so she was born a Miss Cain and married a Mr Khan. Interracial marriage that's all and she chose to keep her own Christian religion.

The word née means her surname before marriage, the surname of her family at birth, maiden name. In this case it says Cain. So search for a Mary Cain who married a man with the surname Khan. Looks like she was born in 1923. She is Christian because she has a cross and depiction if the virgin Mary on the headstone.

Two odd thoughts - there's a funerary masons cum undertakers just down the road from here, which has had a headstone, name and everything on it, in the window for years. I'm presuming its a display sample, rather than a customer's order. Could this be something similar? Also not far away is a masonry recycling yard, which salvages ornamental stone from demolished buildings and sells them on. That might explain the very carefully ordered laying out (sorry!) of the different shapes and forms in many of the pictures. Whatever the truth, I doubt very much that Mrs Khan is there.......

The stones could be from a burial ground that’s been cleared. 30-some years ago, some grave stones were deposited near Queensbury railway Station prior to the land fill and landscaping.

HH Birch And son are undertakers based just outside Nab wood cemetery in the main Rd, they were the undertakers for both my parents My brother had our grandparents stone replaced (not sure why) and I did wonder what would have become of the old stone.

Made and not put in place or from a grave yard but the date it would not have been allowed to move , needs reporting ,check out records maybe x

From what I heard It used to be occupied by Glendale the contractors for the cemeteries.

Back in the late 80’s early 90’s a builder bought undercliffe cemetery. He took some of the head stones and side stones one of which was my grandads stone with his name on. I remember my dad going mad. I wonder if it’s anything to do with that?

They not from Ilkley are they, because I remember a story about loads of grave stones found in woodland near Leeds Road and they were taken to an undisclosed storage area in 2000, it was in the t&a 21st december 2000

They could also be from many of the churches like heckmondwike when they removed the bodies and graves that was in the 90's at heckmondwike chapel, they had to be taken somewhere and stored

thats very interesting. do the records show anything about her marriage? most likely not. Probably had a Muslim wedding at a Mosque (or home) but she may have used the registry office to make it legal? Back in the 90's Muslim wedding were not recognised under UK law so it may be impossible to find out unless her relatives see this.

Many people travelled far and wide to do all sorts during the war - so Kent does sound far out and I doubt its this women BUT it could be! Well done @foxfootfemale for the research I wonder if we can confirm if its the correct Mary? Was she born 1923??? So at that time she would have been 16 ???

@@BradfordThroughTheLens plenty voodoo in this area mate! My next door 100% true we dug up a chickens foot with some kind of taviiz tied around it. I didn't touch it i used grippers to bin it. The renters were Jamaican. I think they are into this stuff like voodoo/witch doctors n stuff!
