Sometimes holding a rod against various parts of the engine, while holding the other end to ones ear, can help pinpoint an area. I have an old broken broom stick in the corner I have used for that, for about forty years.

My late father work for Plymouth so I'm sure he would have been able to saw that engine issue right away once cars one computerized before passed he gave up on it you choose to learn computer engine programming and all that he was a certified mechanic instructor inspector for your vehicle I know a little bit not a lot about vehicle repair but from what he did teach me I use it in my building maintenance job something to prepared to be fixed his skills didn't go to waste on me I may not apply them to the exact same thing he was doing that's why I enjoy watching this brings back memories when he would be in the shop working on cars for customers not a weekend that would help him out for experience it wasn't even about money was about bonding

@@cumulusvapes7 I bought my Duster brand new. It had a 3 speed on the floor with Hurst shifter. It only had an AM radio no A/C and vinyl on the floor with no carpet and a bench seat. No decals at all so it was a sleeper. I could bounce the front end once and pull the front wheels off the ground! Lots of fun!

Daren ...absolutely put sand in the engine
@americanpatriot2.06 Жыл бұрын
I second that. He was very bitter regarding his own car. A situation that Mark should never have contributed to. And Mark did not honor his agreement with Daren. Daren was very manipulative and treated everyone like shit, but he is one of those guys who will eventually snap and do something drastic and tragic. Fortunately the that act was only on an engine and not someone's life. Of course Josh got caught up in all that BS, so I wouldn't be surprised if he did it or was a co-conspirator. The signs Daren was reaching his limits was very clear and Mark failed to recognize the danger that was coming.

There is a guy in WA named Doc, Jurgen Mazetis (Yur-Gen Ma-Zay-Tiss). They call him Doc for good reason. The guy can fix vehicles on a phone, no kidding. Hi, I worked in a body shop and we used to sand blast over 100ft away from furnace, When the furnace stopped one day inside its own room, Mind u, It was plugged full of sand blast sand, After some time, We finally figured how it got in there! From over 100ft away. Down the chimney? If that sand could end up filling up furnace from a 4in pipe over a 100ft away. It could have filled engine..
@MaximusX673 жыл бұрын
That sandblasting nearby made a lot more sense than someone just pouring sand into the engine somehow for some reason! You could see in that 2 second clip of the sandblasting just how much sand was in the air ..... and I would guess that they spent some time out there sandblasting those parts. Definitely looked like that caused it to me anyway!

So Mark prefers to build and restore these cars as OEM; why does this car have an aftermarket Edelbrock carburetor on it??
@nickelmickel41703 жыл бұрын
Because some customers want aftermarket parts.
@cumulusvapes73 жыл бұрын
Same reason it has Mastercraft tires im guessing.. But the bolts you CANT see are right! LOL
@stevefirth20132 жыл бұрын
I have to wonder if that's not a run carb in order to break in the engine. They get great carbs from Harms now for the gingerbread reveals that go on the finished product.
@americanpatriot2.06 Жыл бұрын
@@nickelmickel4170 A point that Mark has made several times. He built his business on OEM. But the customers get what they want unless he can convince them otherwise. The rarer the car, the more adamant Mark is about OEM because of authenticity and value.

You do don't let an engine run with a horrendous noise and hope it goes away! All 340's all use the thick paper intake gasket! And who installs the fuel tanks without the sender??? Highly doubt that's an OE procedure.
@majorpayne52893 жыл бұрын
Proper tune still needed for that engine. Also, way to close to the sand blaster. It's the culprit indeed.
@johnkrout81313 жыл бұрын
Steel intake gaskets always a bad idea, just like the big block steel valley pan, use the thin paper gasket on valley pan and Felpro or Mr gaskets paper on the LA motors

What I've always done to pinpoint the general source of an engine noise is to place a long pry bar or other kind of long metal bar & place one end on different places around the engine then putting an ear to the other end. Of course be super careful doing this but you will know immediately where the noise is coming from 90% of the time.

Over 24 months?
@MaximusX673 жыл бұрын
Yeah after watching other shows like "Wrecks to Riches" and some other restoration shows, and watching them completely rebuild cars in a couple months or less (4 weeks for each Wrecks to Riches episode/vehicle is all) I was also shocked that it was taking them that long to get the car done. It must have been a very VERY low priority that got passed over again and again for more financially profitable restorations. Also might have been a 'favor' like restoration where they weren't getting much money for the car. In the end they had that car project in their shop for around 30 months! If I were the customer I'd have said never mind a long LONG time ago.
@MaximusX673 жыл бұрын
After watching most of seasons 1 through 6 now I see that this is NOT uncommon for their total OE restorations ..... most of their work seems to take 2+ years from start to finish at a MINIMUM!! Sometimes even more time than that!!. I know they want OEM perfection on these projects. But as a customer I think I would start to worry after seeing little to nothing done on my car for a year or more. The teams they have here do seem to be very knowledgeable and good at their jobs - but that overall timeline on each project would KILL ME ... I am not patient enough to wait a few YEARS for them to complete work I am probably paying close to 6 figures for in the end!!
